The Pop Stop: 5 Seconds of Summer, Ty Herndon, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Friday 15th Jul 2022 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from 5 Seconds of Summer, Ty Herndon, Grandma, and Surf Curse.

Join us inside…

5 Seconds of Summer – Blender

The boys of 5 Seconds of Summer are not afraid to get raw, and they do so on their new single, ‘Blender.’ Laying all of their emotions all out on the table, the song’s title accurately reflects the whirring feelings throughout the track. Anthemic from start to finish, the song is set to appear on their upcoming alum ‘5SOS5,’ which is proving to be their best work as of now.

Ty Herndon – Till You Get There

Fresh off the release of his latest album, ‘Jacob,’ country music superstar Ty Herndon is back with his latest song, ‘Till You Get There.’ A bombastic slice of 90s country, ‘Till You Get There’ is complete with an infectious hook and Ty’s authentic self poured into every lyric. A delicious slice of throwback country, ‘Till You Get There’ is Herndon at his most commercial and most vulnerable.

Grandma – God Hired You To Be My Baby

Alternative rocker Grandma is back with his latest single ‘God Hired You To Be My Baby.’ Appearing on his upcoming EP ‘Angelhood’ – due out August 12 – the song is maximalist 90s rock song similar to that of Smashing Pumpkins. Covering the theme of intimacy, the song is anchored in industrial drums and roaring guitar riffs. One of the most authentic 90s-inspired tunes to come out in recent history, this song could be as iconic as the decade it references.

Surf Curse – TVI

Platinum-selling rockers Surf Curse are back with their latest single, ‘TVI.’ Appearing on their upcoming album ‘Magic Hour,’ – due out September 16 – the song is rollicking and dramatic. What’s more, it contains flourishes of perky guitar chords, pounding drums, and grooving bass lines. The second single from their album, ‘TVI’ is a bold step forward for one of indie-rock’s most inventive bands.
