The Pop Stop: The 1975, Keith Urban, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Friday 8th Jul 2022 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from The 1975, Keith Urban, Arden Jones, and Garrett Nash.

Join us inside…

The 1975 – Part Of The Band

The 1975 have officially begun their next era thanks to the release of their latest song, ‘Part of the Band.’ Anchored by a crisp string arrangement, the group ditches the 80’s-inspired synths from previous albums and instead go full Bon Iver folk. Make no mistake, while they may be headed in a new direction sonically, frontman Matt Healy’s ionic lyrics are still very much intact – see “I like my men like I like my coffee – full of soy milk and so sweet.” Easily the best new release of the week, ‘Part of the Band’ brings back the charm and nuance of a group that has stood among the best for the last decade.

Keith Urban – Brown Eyes Baby

Having first been previewed during a performance on ‘Today,’ country music superstar Keith Urban has finally unleashed his latest song, ‘Brown Eyes Baby.’ Seemingly an answer to Crystal Gayle’s classic ‘Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,’ the song is also a nod to his hit ‘Blue Ain’t Your Color’ with its touches of electric guitar, soft backbeat, and laid-back vibes. Serving as Urban’s best song in recent years, ‘Brown Eyes Baby’ has all the charisma and charm that made him a star to begin with.

Arden Jones – 4 Walls

Singer-songwriter Arden Jones is back with his latest EP, ‘Age Tape 6.’ On the EP is the hypnotic song ‘4 Walls,’ which features fellow musical artist Sarcastic Sounds. Laced with delicate piano, hand claps, and stirring guitar progressions, ‘4 Walls’ sees Jones long for freedom beyond the confines of his home. A strong showing from one of tomorrow’s brightest stars, ‘4 Walls’ displays the kinda of maturity and complexity of an artist well beyond his years.

Garrett Nash – Money, Love, & Death

Garrett Nash, formerly known as Nash, has been busy making hits for years. Having scored a top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his smash ‘I hate u, I love u,’ Nash is back with his latest hit: ‘Money, Love, & Death.’ Led by soft strums of acoustic guitar, Nash takes on themes of love and loss. Serving a delicious slice of folk-pop Nash’s ‘Money, Love, & Death’ makes for a true standout in his discography.
