2022 MTV VMAs Enjoy Ratings Boost Over Last Year’s Ceremony

Published: Tuesday 30th Aug 2022 by Rashad

In courting stage-blazing performances from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow, BLACKPINK, J. Balvin, Bad Bunny, and more (as we reported here), the 2022 MTV VMAs packed just enough punch and star power to help reverse the ailing annual ceremony’s ratings.

Details inside:

Total Viewership = 3.9 Million

While the Academy Awards, EMMYs, GRAMMYs, American Music Awards, and other major award shows are posting declining figures year to year, the VMAs are uniquely exempt from these reports thanks to its multi-faceted approach to broadcasting.

Despite listing its lowest real-time viewership to date (at 705,000 views on the MTV channel alone), the TV event – which aired Sunday (August 28) – averaged 3.9 million viewers across its total consumption which included the awards themselves, a preshow, and two on-air replays across 12 Paramount Global cable channels and broadcast network The CW.

The viewership figure represents an increase from the 3.7 million that tuned in for the 2021 awards and any associated programming.  What’s more, Paramount says viewers consumed 1.59 billion minutes of VMAs content Sunday – a 14 percent increase over 1.4 billion minutes a year ago.

And ugly Bardi Gang and Meggy The Man fans said ratings would be at an all time low 😂 once again an egg 🍳 to the face. You clowns 🤡

3.7 to 3.9 million really the garbs will take anything. That album still selling 25k first week LOL.

    • Slumb August 31, 2022

Super Freaky Girl is already falling in the charts, was n°1 for a short period of time as expected. By this time Hot Sh*t is actually winning new placement on billboard and is one of the most streamed song on urban radio.

Oh and Traumazine is still on the top 10 billboard 200, eat that egg 🤡

      • Slumb August 31, 2022

AND Megan makes better sales with Traumazine than Nicki with a greatest hits of her best songs, do you imagine? 😂

And the AMA that cardi hosted still had more views on 1 channel 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

And she’s STILL a flop so it means nothing.

It aired on damn near every channel, even basic television and only pulled in 3.9 million viewers. That’s PITIFUL. Award shows are almost obselete.

    • Theman August 31, 2022

That’s nit every channel. It was some cable networks and some smaller ones.

      • XTINA August 31, 2022

They didn’t use to air it but on ONE so this s*** is SAD AS F***

    • New York NY September 2, 2022

      PITIFUL? Maybe
      EMBARRASSING? That too

The music that they put on there is not what people want. They’re in their own little MSM bubble which people are turning away from.

NFL PRESEASON between the Lions and the Steelers drew over 5 Million. Meaningless NFL game – beats VMAs on 12 different channels.

Award shows stopped meaning something when the awards stopped meaning something. Too often they don’t seem to be based on any real merit – it’s just a game of strategy to try to boost sales in an industry that has become a shadow of its former self. My playlist is probably 80% 80s, 90s and early 2000s music. Most singers and performers of today don’t give me a sense of quality and longevity.

      ALL of this.

    • XTINA August 31, 2022

That’s not the main issue though. The issue is MTV is not needed anymore for the music industry. That’s why nobody watches it. It’s a waste of time

      • New York NY September 2, 2022

I dunno. MTV and all the MTV stuff is useless at this point. However, MTV did used to be good, and it was very important back in the day. Good MTV is needed. I didn’t watch this show, didn’t consider watching it.

Top 40 music is crap that people take action to avoid. If they can’t get over 3.9 Million on 12 stations, people are working hard to turn away from that garbage.

  4. XTINA August 31, 2022

MTV doesn’t play videos for decades and they still can’t figure out why they a flop

    • Shayla Queen™ 👑 August 31, 2022

Exactly. It’s not Music Television without being music television lmaoooooooooo 🤣
