On the eve of what would have been his 64th birthday, this week’s From The Vault is dedicated to the incomparable Michael Jackson.
Today, we give you the uber-classic ‘The Way You Make Me Feel.’
The third single from Jackson’s 1987 third adult era effort ‘Bad,’ ‘Feel’ was written by MJ and co-produced with music maestro Quincy Jones.
Showing a flirtier side of Mike, it was met with critical as well as commercial success. Considered one of his signature songs, it peaked at #1 in the US and charted mainly within the top 10 and top 20 internationally.
Directed by Joe Pytka, the video for the tune is one of Pop culture’s most iconic and influential. Set in a vibrant neighborhood, it depicts MJ as a young suitor who is crushing hard on a beautiful love interest played by model Tatiana Thumbtzen. He serenades and playfully pursues her for the duration of the visual before he is joined by a few friends for a sensational silhouette-heavy dance break.
Sister LaToya Jackson makes an appearance as one of the love interest’s girlfriends.
The visual was nominated for Best Choreography at the 1988 MTV VMA’s but lost to sister Janet’s ‘Pleasure Principle.’

Once again, Michael served the world with substantial art that would live on to inspire many.
Do we even need to name the songs or videos that wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for this very musical piece and its accompanying short film?
13 years after MJ’s passing, and while his absence is still felt, we can’t help but smile when we see how his work continues to connect with the TikTok generation.
Goes to show that greatness never ever dies. We thank you and we salute you, MJ!
Yaaaaaaaaaaas MJ, yaaaaaaaaaaas!

The true King of Music
Michael was born in 1958, so this year (2022) he would have been 64 years old, not 63.
