It’s a good week to be John Legend.
The EGOT winner is not only celebrating the release of his seventh traditional studio album, ‘Legend’ (click here to stream), but he’s also learned the highly anticipated set’s arrival to digital shelves was preceded by his arrival into the topmost quadrant of the updated Hot 100.
Details inside.
Sitting atop the current Billboard 200 is DJ Khaled with ‘God Did.’
The star-studded affair, featuring appearances from the likes of Drake, Lil Baby, SZA, Future, Quavo, Takeoff, and many more, landed on the tally’s summit thanks to first-week sales of 107,500 – marking the fourth time Khaled’s occupied the space in his career overall (as we reported here).
Because of the digital streaming and purchase power that pushed ‘God’ to its Billboard height, some of its songs benefitted on the Hot 100 side of charts as well. Among the set’s 18 tunes, the highest-charting cut this week comes courtesy of its John Legend, JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Fridayy-assisted title track.
Found at #17 on the refreshed hitlist, its positioning marks the first time Legend’s been listed in the top 20 since 2015 when he peaked at #8 with the Meghan Trainor-led ‘Like I’m Gonna Lose You.’ For Wayne, JAY, and Ross the appearance is less of a milestone as each have entered the top 20 at least once over the last 2 years. The #17 entry of ‘God Did’ (the song) makes it the second highest-charting song of the new Khaled era, following the Drake and Lil Baby-enlisted ‘Staying Alive’ (which peaked at #5 on the Hot 100 earlier this summer).

I know I’m not the only one who can not stand to listen to John legend
For a guy who has a new album this week, I’ve barely heard a peep from him. Hopefully the album doesn’t flop, like his last one
