With one of the most illustrious careers in Pop music history, Britney Spears is no stranger to seeing her name attached to some jaw-dropping Billboard records over the years.

But, thanks to her latest hit – the Elton John-led ‘Hold Me Closer’ – the ‘Baby One More Time’ beauty has been penciled in the publication’s record logs one more time.

As we reported here, the refreshed Hot 100 revealed ‘Closer’ closed its first charting week at #6.  A milestone for John, the positioning comes as the highest rung he’s reached since ‘Candle in the Wind 1997’ topped the tally 25 years ago.

For Spears, on the other hand, the accomplishment – which comes as her first top 10 hit in a decade – is a historic one.

First, she joined an exclusive club of female hitmakers who can boast having earned a Hot 100 top 10 placement with a new song over age 40.  More exclusively, she’s entered a group of ladies in the same age bracket who have accomplished the feat over 4 different decades.  Following Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey, Britney – at 40-years-young – makes history as the youngest woman to claim the achievement to date.  For all intents and purposes, some publications include Beyonce in this count as well as she’s attached to a top 10 hit in the 90’s (courtesy of Destiny’s Child) and 00’s, 10’s, and 20’s as a solo act.

Among all acts, only Elton, Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Andy Williams can say the same.

As if that’s not enough to brag about, John and Spears’ new hit became the first duet in Billboard history to debut atop the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.  All acts considered, only Lady Gaga‘s ‘Stupid Love’ and Drake‘s ‘Falling Back’ can boast having premiered atop this specific tally.
