While ‘Midnights,’ the latest album from Taylor Swift, is enjoying a very much expected domination of the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, few could have foreseen the extent of its carnage.
On the Billboard 200 front, ‘Midnights’ entered the chart at #1 with a whopping 1.5 million units sold – a feat accomplished by record-breaking vinyl sales and streams (as we reported here).
And while its lengthy list of wins on that chart are mirrored by those on the Hot 100, there are a few standouts on the latter tally – namely the number of legendary acts she leaves in her rearview in the wake of the LP’s success.

Before the announcement of the updated Hot 100 Monday (October 31), the Pop diva had collected 30 top 10 hits over her career – tying her with King of Pop Michael Jackson‘s all-time record.
As reported here, the refreshed version of the tally shows Swift owning the entire top 10 by her lonesome thanks to cuts found aboard ‘Midnights.’ This is the first time in the chart’s 64-year history any artist has ever accomplished such a feat.
With the addition of the 10 new top 10 placements, Taylor takes her career-long top 10 total to 40. The leap not only sees her surpass Jackson but also Rihanna (31 top 10s), The Beatles (34 top 10s), and Queen of Pop Madonna (38 top 10s) in the process to become the second artist (first female) in history to own as many top 10 hits. At writing, the only act to have collected more top 10 hits is Drake (who owns 59).

How can you break a record going by completely different rules? No one is ever coming close to what Michael did.

Well, I agree with that one. The legends of past would have had MANY more Top 10s etc had there have been streaming back then. They only have “less” because they had to release songs as singles, and physically at that, for them to chart. Now, all album songs are available and eligible to chart.

I’m sorry but I love Taylor but comparing her with these streaming numbers and all that just doesn’t compare to what Michael did. They should just start off new charts and retire all the old charts before streaming.
