Nicki Minaj may already be one of the most-decorated rappers in music history, but if the 2022 American Music Awards are any indication, she shows no signs of slowing down her trophy collection any time soon.
Minaj entered this year’s AMAs with only one nomination – Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist – and still managed to defeat the competition.
Leaving the likes of Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Glorilla, and Cardi B in her rearview, Nicki’s win in the category marked the fifth time she nabbed the honor – an impressive winning streak given she’s only been nominated in it five times over her career.
The triumph also puts the 39-year-old in history books as the category’s most-decorated act, passing Eminem‘s 4 wins in the process.
Over the years, the AMAs has morphed the Hip-Hop Artist category to be more in tune with the times.
Since its 1989 debut, the category has gone from Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist to Favorite Hip Hop/R&B before ultimately landing at its current iteration: Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist (and separated by male and female nominees).
