RIAA: Doja Cat Now Has More Gold Records Than ANY Female Rapper Ever, Breaking Tie with Nicki Minaj

The out-of-this-world success attributed to ‘Planet HER,’ the third album of Doja Cat, shows no sign of slowing despite the project being released last summer.

In addition to watching its content break multiple records at streaming and radio since its June 2021 unveiling, the ‘Kiss Me More’-led effort is still regularly crowned the Billboard 200’s best-commercially performing female Rap LP of the week (as evidenced by the most recent print of the chart).

The wins don’t stop on the charts, however. Look inside to find out the latest way Cat’s climbed into history books courtesy of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

As reported here, the RIAA took to press November 17 to reveal a whopping 14 titles from Doja’s discography had their certification statuses upgraded.

Key standouts among the entries were the historic 2x Platinum certifications of her sophomore and tertiary albums, ‘Hot Pink’ and ‘Planet HER’ respectively, which made her the second female rapper in history to own multiple multiPlatinum albums (following Nicki Minaj).

Another worthy callout from the set of certifications is the new Gold status of Doja’s tunes ‘Been Like This‘ and ‘Won’t Bite.’ With the additions, Cat’s cumulative Gold record count for singles now sits at 23 – not only breaking a tie she once held with Minaj (who boasts 21 Gold singles) but also making the GRAMMY winner the first femcee to own as many of the plaques.

When it comes to Platinum plaques, Doja – thanks to three new Platinum-certified hits ‘Freak,’ ‘Go To Town,’ and ‘Vegas’ – pushes her cumulative count to 17, tying Cardi B for the all-time record amog female rappers.

As previously reported, the recent slew of RIAA updates catapult Cat’s collective digital sales to 42 million in the U.S., making her one of the best-selling acts of the era overall.  She is second only to Cardi B (54 million) among female rap stars.

Note: when tabulating an artist’s cumulative sales the RIAA only includes titles the act leads, not features on.  Further, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond-eligible projects are not included in the sum, only verified/audited figures.
