RIAA: Doja Cat Joins Nicki Minaj As Only Female Rappers in History With 2 or More MultiPlatinum Albums

Published: Friday 18th Nov 2022 by Rashad

Peruse of the updated Billboard 200 reveals Doja Cat‘s GRAMMY-nominated tertiary album, 2021’s ‘PLANET HER,’ is the week’s best commercially-performing female Rap album as it’s still orbiting in the chart’s topmost quadrant (#47 this week).

Its ongoing success across Billboard comes as the result of rocking radio with as well as steady streams and digital downloads of its slew of smashes including the Hot 100 top 10 hits ‘Woman,’ ‘Kiss Me More,’ ‘Get Into It (Yuh),’ and more.

That enduring presence on charts is also the reason the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently took to press to share news several of her most beloved titles had received certification upgrades.

Look inside for details.

On Thursday (November 17), the RIAA announced 14 entries from Cat’s discography had clawed their way to a new certification threshold.

See the full updated list below.

6x Platinum

  • ‘Say So’ (Single)

5x Platinum

  • ‘Kiss Me More (featuring SZA) (Single)

4x Platinum

  • ‘Streets’ (Single)
  • ‘Need to Know’ (Single)

3x Platinum

  • ‘Woman’ (Single)

2x Platinum

  • ‘Ain’t Sh*t’ (Single)
  • ‘Get Into It (Yuh)’ (Single)
  • ‘Hot Pink’ (Album)
  • ‘Planet Her’ (Album)

1x Platinum (denotes sales of 1 million in the United States)

  • ‘Freak’ (Single)
  • ‘Go To Town’ (Single)
  • ‘Vegas’ (Single)

Gold (denotes sales of 500,000 in the U.S.)

  • ‘Been Like This’
  • ‘Won’t Bite (featuring SMINO)

The updates push Doja’s collective digital sales to 42 million in the U.S., making her one of the best-selling acts of the era.  In fact, when all female acts are considered, Doja ranks 10th on the all-time digital sales list behind Rihanna (155.5 million), Taylor Swift (137.5 million), Beyonce (114 million), Katy Perry (109.5 million), Lady Gaga (80.5 million), Ariana Grande (63.5 million), Cardi B (54 million), Mariah Carey (52.5 million), and Carrie Underwood (48 million).

Among key callouts from the brigade of Cat’s new certifications are ‘Say So,’ her inaugural Hot 100 #1 hit, extending its reign as her highest-certified single to date as well as the 2x Platinum standing of two of her studio albums, ‘Hot Pink’ and ‘Planet Her.’

Thanks to their refreshed statuses they make Cat the second female rapper in history to see at least 2 studio efforts reach such a certification standard.  Before her, Nicki Minaj – the all-time leader among females (with 3 multiPlatinum sets) – was the first when her 2014 LP ‘The Pinkprint’ left its print on a double Platinum plaque in early 2016 and joined her previously 3x Platinum-certified 2010 effort ‘Pink Friday.’ Minaj’s 2012 release, ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,’ was also elevated to 2x Platinum in 2016.

It’s worth noting that Missy Elliott kicked off the year by entering RIAA history books as the first and only female rapper to own 6 Platinum-certified albums.  However, at time reported, her only multiPlatinum body of work is 2002’s ‘Under Construction.’

Nicky is only multi platinum because of streams even pink Friday didn’t go double platinum until like 5 years after Release and it went triple when streams became a factor. All these accolades are only due to her being apart of the streaming era. She couldn’t hold a candle to Missy or Kims over all physical sales

Female MCs didn’t set the bar THAT HIGH which is how POP STAR Nikki was able to claim the QUEEN title (until Cardi B)…

Notice how Nikki is NOT mentioned the Digital Top 10. Does NOT have a super successful album on SPOTIFY. No Grammy. Only 1 Diamond POP hit. & Not solo #1 hit to speak of until Now.

Meanwhile Cardi Came through the gate Solo with a REAL ORGANIC HIT. And 3X Plat with IOP. Which is more successful than any Nikki album.

    • FAF November 19, 2022

And all these new b****** are multi platinum bc of streams as well

      Kim couldn’t that’s for sure!

    • KD November 29, 2022

Lmao….Let’s come back to reality. Pink Friday debuted with 375,000 pure sales, the 2nd highest pure sales by a female rapper (Lauryn hill has the highest). So if Kim and Missy had higher pure sales Nicki wouldn’t be number 2. Cardi’s Invasion of privacy did 103,000 pure sales. Cardi is actually the one surviving off streams and given that her label Atlantic is being exposed for bots and fake stream, it makes sense why her pure sales don’t match her streams.

Umm cardi RIAA sales are 100 million not 54 million

    • King z November 18, 2022

No. RIAA only credits artists with songs they are lead on. Only fans count features and “eligible tracks.”

      Cardi is nowhere near 100million

      • Dc November 18, 2022

54 million with 1 album not bad keep watching them second album sales gonna put her over 100 million
