The Pop Stop: Kim Petras, Joel Corry, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Friday 20th Jan 2023 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Kim Petras, Joel Corry, GOT the beat, and boygenius.

Join us inside…

Kim Petras – Brrr

Kim Petras continues to have an impressive run of singles. Riding high off of the singles ‘Unholy’ and ‘If Jesus Was A Rockstar,’ Petras releases yet another banger with ‘Brrr.’ A hypnotic pop tune complete with a throbbing backbeat and pounding bass, Petras delivers another settler kiss off anthem.

Joel Corry – 10:35 (Remix)

Joel Corry is no stranger to taking songs and elevating them to the next level and that is exactly what he does with Tiesto and Tate McRae’s ’10:35.’ Featuring McRae’s vocals, the song contains a house beat that was meant for the clubs. One of his strongest remixes, Corry once again proves his insane musical prowess with this tune.

GOT the beat – Stamp On It

K-pop supergroup Got the beat has officially released their debut EP, ‘Stamp On It.’ Found on the project is the title track, a hypnotic blend of pop and hip-hop that was written by Tayla Parx. Containing a mesmerizing refrain, the song is a tightly structured work that showcases the best of each member.

Boygenius – True Blue

Indie music group boygenius, the trio of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker, have announced their debut album, ‘The Record,’ due out March 3. Along with the announcement came three singles: ‘$20,’ ‘Emily I’m Sorry,’ and ‘True Blue,’ with the best of the three being ‘True Blue.’ A romantic ballad, the content of the song is paired with gentle strums of a guitar, heavily backing vocals, and soft drums. Across the song, they sing: “it feels good to be known so well” and boy does this group deserve to be known.
