Xscape star LaTocha Scott is setting sail on a new musical journey – as a Gospel artist.
And she’s teamed up with one of the genre’s most potent platforms to propagate her music and message.
Full story below…
In an announcement made moments ago, it was shared that the ‘Who Can I Run To’ belter has inked an exclusive license agreement with Motown Gospel via her own label, Made Girl Music.
The pact serves as a full circle moment after humble beginnings singing at Mt. Olive Church of God in Holiness, in her hometown of College Park, GA.
Scott, who is readying her debut Gospel album for release later this year, said in a statement:
“It has always been a passion of mine to do inspirational music. It has been my foundation, and that is very evident, even when I sing R&B music. I can’t escape that.”
Monica Coates, Co-Executive Director, Motown Gospel added:
“A hallmark of LaTocha’s successful career has been her love for gospel music and her strong personal connection to the Black church. I am excited for her fans—long-standing and new—to finally have a body of work that reflects those areas of her passion.”
EJ Gaines, Co-Executive Director of Motown Gospel concluded:
“LaTocha has one of the most recognized voices in R&B, but she also has staying power and manages to maintain relevance in a marketplace that doesn’t always allow for that. I can’t wait for her fans to hear what she’s been working on.”
Scott, who recently won the Lady of Soul honor with Xscape, can also be seen on her group’s forthcoming reality show on Bravo later this year.
Hunnie, you are too old for a solo career💅🏾 flop mani said hi
False. She is established already; this is just an extension of her success. As for too old, that would be you. You’re WAY too old to be on any forum (anonymously or not) spewing your vile and hateful rhetoric. Uncontrollably mind you like a Tourette’s patient. Poor you. No really, POOoor, broke, disenfranchised you 😂
“Established” to a small group of black women in their 50s and 60s…
False. But if that were true, do they not listen to gospel music???
Diva’s #2 stalker 💅🏾
Not can’t “escape it”
GOOD LUCK TO HER!!!! Just ask Michelle Williams how she was treated in the gospel world after DC3 broke up. Same with Coko. It’s a very small, competitive, JUDGMENTAL industry. Gospel stations won’t play her music due to her Xscape days. But if that’s what brings her heart joy, good for her!
Wow… interesting
Gospel music seems to be the landfill where unsuccessful R&B singers and musicians go to be recycled. The only problem is the gospel album will still sound like an r&b album that no one wants to hear or buy.
Flop. The gospel world doesn’t know her and the R&B world wants her in Xscape. She’s wasting her time but I’m happy she’s finally getting that solo album she’s always wanted. Let’s hope it won’t be shelved…..again. 🥴
I always thought that R&B artists easily transition to Gospel music once their R&B peak has passed. Artists like Regina Belle, Stephanie Mills, and Coco have gone that route and I assumed they were greeted with open arms. As long as your R&B days weren’t overly raunchy, I could be wrong, but I think most Christians will listen to anyone who sounds good and delivers their message of hope and belief (whether the deliverer actually has hope and belief or not). Most gospel music leans R&B nowadays anyway.
I think it depends on the artist, their ties to the church, and the quality of the music. I don’t remember Coko, Regina, Stephanie, Kelly Price, or even Fantasia being warmly embraced. Their r&b ties is what kept them afloat in gospel, which is why none of them made a total career switch. I imagine it’s even harder now that interest in the genre seems to be dropping.
Gospel is a fickle industry, and it’s difficult to become successful in it. Out of everyone you named, Fantasia is embraced the most. Second would be Kelly Price. The others are non-factors in the gospel industry and that’s no shade.
Doing better than Monica
My love, Monica had a gospel hit with James Fortune in 2012. Why her name is always in your mouth, we’ll never know.
2012? Hit where? The Gospel charts? You just DRAGGED that flop! SCREEEEEEEAMING!!!!! 🤣
Just as I said ROACH. It was a Gospel hit. Try again hater. 🥱
Gospel “hit?” Ain’t no such thang.
Monica don’t need no group to be successful ya b****! What credits does Tocha have as a solo artist? I’ll wait…. And nobody buying this gospel album so hush and keep Monica’s name off your fingertip trannnnyyyy
Well she certainly isn’t successful solo either 💀
Good for her!
I wouldn’t support her efforts in gospel. Her spirit isn’t right. She’s mean and shady like a typical old church lady.
Insanely talented vocalist. I will listen.
But why y’all mad though because she gave her life to the Lord. Y’all heathens should try him for yourselves!
“Tdjakeslover” tells me everything I need to know about you LMAOOOOO 🤣
So, congratulations and Kandi and the group was right about you!
