Despite seeing some of his sex abuse charges dropped in Chicago late last month (as we reported here), R. Kelly is still very much on the hook for multiple convictions on related charges.
Already serving a 30 year-bid for a sentence handed down last summer for federal sex trafficking and racketeering crimes, now the embattled R&B legend has been sentenced to 20 years for a separate federal sex crimes case in the Windy City.
US District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber handed Kelly a 20-year sentence following the singer’s September 2022 conviction on charges of child pornography.
Prosecutors were recommending the GRAMMY winner serve 25 more years consecutively to his 30-year New York sentence, but Leinenweber said nineteen of the years from the Chicago ruling will be served concurrently with the NY sentence (ultimately meaning the music legend will spend an additional year in prison).
At writing, Kelly nor a rep from his camp have issued a statement on the latest sentencing.
