On Friday (April 14), the RIAA took to press to announce ‘Only Girl in the World’ – the lead single from Rih’s 2010 fifth studio album ‘Loud’ – had roared to 7x Platinum status. This means it’s sold the equivalence of 7 million copies in the United States alone.
The Stargate-produced jam, which soared to #1 on the Hot 100 at the height of its popularity, stands as one of the singer’s highest-certified songs yet. In fact, the only tunes from her discography to place higher in the RIAA’s ranking are ‘Needed Me’ (9x Platinum), ‘Stay’ (9x Platinum), ‘Work’ (9x Platinum), ‘We Found Love’ (9x Platinum), and ‘Umbrella’ (8x Platinum).
Already the best-selling female artist of the digital era, the upgraded stats of ‘Girl’ pushes Rih’s cumulative career single sales to 164.5 million.
Among all acts, she ranks third behind Drake (184 million) and Eminem (166 million).
