It’s Official: Missy Elliott Will Be the First Female Rapper Inducted Into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Just three months after the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its coveted list of nominees for the 2023 class, organizers of the induction ceremony have confirmed whose names will grace its hallowed halls.

Among the select few if Rap royal Missy Elliott – who not only boasts entry the first year of her eligiblity but makes history as the first female rapper to be inducted.

Announced Wednesday morning (May 3), the list of performers set to be inducted include Elliott as well as Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, and The Spinners.

While this year’s ‘musical influence award’ will be handed to the groundbreaking DJ Kool Herc, the ‘musical excellence award’ will be presented to Queen of Funk Chaka Khan as well as Al Kooper and Bernie Taupin. Don Cornelius – legendary host of ‘Soul Train’ – will be posthumously honored with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled to take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in Brooklyn on November 3. Official ticket information is forthcoming.
