In incredibly sad news, it has been announced that Irish Grinstead – member of R&B group 702 – has died.

The singer’s sister and bandmate LeMisha Grinstead broke the news.
Taking to social media, she shared that her beloved sibling had died today (September 16) after “a long battle” with an illness.
The statement read:
“It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend has passed away this evening. She has had a long battle and she is finally at peace. That girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside, but also within. Sharing the stage with her was a joy I will cherish for the rest of my life! We, the family ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family.

Irish served as a prominent member of 702 during its 90’s heyday and together with LeMisha and the group’s lead Meelah Williams nabbed hits such as ‘Steelo’ and ‘Where My Girls At.’
More recently, Irish and LeMisha appeared on BET Presents: The Encore, in hopes of forming a supergroup comprised of members from various girl bands.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Irish’s loved ones.
Sad, I believe another sibling had also previously passed away. 702 were definitely an underrated band, I was rooting for them to make a comeback. Such a shame, she was too young to go.
