It’s been nearly 7 months since its arrival to digital music platforms, but music lovers aren’t done spinning the block on ‘Block Boy‘ – the breakout single from rising rapstress Doechii.
Formally titled ‘What It Is,’ the J. White Did It-produced jam – which famously and prominently features samples of TLC‘s ‘No Scrubs‘ and Trillville‘s ‘Some Cut‘ (even interpolating lyrics from the latter in its chorus) – has seen its solo and Kodak Black-assisted versions take off.
Their commercial performances combined, alongside a handsome response at radio, has not only boosted ‘Block’ to a new Hot 100 high but also the highest rung Doechii’s reached in her career to date.
Details inside.
Peruse of the updated Hot 100 sees Doe listed at #32. Here are the numbers that sparked the 11-spot jump from last week.
- Streaming ≈ 4.5 million U.S.-based streams
- Digital Downloads ≈ 600,000 sold
- Radio airplay ≈ 41.6 million audience impressions
A personal milestone for the femcee, the #32 placement not only marks the highest placement she’s landed on the Hot 100 yet but also her first time venturing into the tally’s top 40.
For Kodak, ‘Block’ comes as his 8th top 40 smash having previously run in the chart territory with hits like ‘Tunnel Vision‘ (#6 peak), ‘Super Gremlin‘ (#3 peak), ‘ZeZe‘ (#2 peak), and others.
