Tyla‘s international breakout hit, ‘Water,’ is taking over American shores.
Thanks to a viral TikTok dance challenge sweeping every corner of the globe, the South African newcomer is enjoying major success with her inaugural single ‘Water.’
Having already conquered the top 10 of her native country as well as The Netherlands, United Kingdom, New Zealand, and more, the Sammy Soso-produced hit seems poised to do the same Stateside if its impressive Hot 100 opening is anything to judge by.
Premiering at #67 on the refreshed hitlist, here are the numbers that powered her very first placement.
- Streaming ≈ 6.5 million U.S.-based streams
- Digital downloads ≈ 1,000 sold
- Radio Airplay ≈ 3 million audience impressions
Chart historians note the entrance of ‘Water’ marks the first time this century a South African soloist has claimed territory on the Hot 100 – a gap left open since jazz legend Hugh Masekela planted his hit ‘Grazing in the Grass‘ on the tally 55 years ago.
At 21-years-young, however, Tyla is country’s youngest hitmaker to appear on the hitlist.
