It’s been weeks since Mario raised eyebrows for asserting he belonged on the “R&B Mt. Rushmore” beside the likes of Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Whitney Houston, and Usher, but now the latter is chiming into the conversation to suggest he agrees with at least some of the ‘Let Me Love You’ singer’s assessment.

Hot on the promo trail in support of his recently announced partnership with pharmaceutical company Sanofi and their ‘Pledge movement’ to encourage people to get screened for Type 1 diabetes, the 8x GRAMMY winner was inevitably inundated with questions about his Vegas residency, 2024-due new album ‘Coming Home,’ and his long-awaited headlining Super Bowl halfttime show.
Dropping by USA Today, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, ‘Today with Hoda & Jenna,’ and many more, Ush made his rounds over the last week to drop hints about everything from the spectacle’s setlist to surprise guests (e.g. Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, and more).
When he sat down with our friends at E! News, he not only addressed the aforementioned but also weighed in on the ongoing ‘R&B Mt. Rushmore’ debate.
“I get to put myself up there,” he asked before naming the megastars he holds in high esteem. “Marvin Gaye is going up there, Michael Jackson‘s going to be up there, Prince is going to be up there, and I’d put a few incredible female vocalists like Whitney Houston up there.”
For context, “Mt. Rushmore” is a colloquial reference to who ranks as the greatest of all time of a discipline, concept, or theory.
Usher is a few points shy of deserving to put HIMSELF next to marvin gaye luther vandross Stevie wonder and MJ. 🤭
His fans can put him up there tho.
My main reason for wanting to see usher SB performance is to see of he can pull it off without looking like a member of the Backstreet Boys. I find user’s performance style to be corny. 💯
He can’t even sit next to Chris Brown FOH😭
Sorry but I would say he is not there yet. Plus he does have some hits under his belt but they have not really matured into timeless classics, like Whitney Dance With Somebody, Michael Man In The Mirror,Billie Jean, Luther Never Too Much, Prince Purple Rain. Usher has classics such as Confessions but they have not aged as well.
What are you talking about!! Yes they have! His classics aren’t as old as the others you mentioned, but still classics nonetheless.
It’s all in fun. My four would be Whitney, Mariah, Michael and Janet.
Yea, he is a legend. A bonafide superstar! Beyoncé’s male counterpart. Looking forward to his Super Bowl performance to solidify his legacy.
Justin Timberlake is the one closest to Micheal Jackson but he doesn’t know it
Usher is a GREAT artist! But his contribution to R&B hasn’t been as globally impactful as MJ’s, Prince, and Whitney’s. So, I personally wouldn’t place him or Beyonce among them. He & Bey have solidified their own place in history and will receive their iconic recognition in due time.
agreed thanks for saying this perfectly.
