Trevor Jackson may be used to receiving ceremonious praise for his remixes and covers of some of today’s top hits, but his attempt at Tyla‘s breakout hit ‘Water‘ didn’t quite make the splash he was expecting.

Taking to Tik Tok on Tuesday (November 7), Jackson lifted the ‘Water’ cover as the latest contribution to his weekly #TMixTuesdays series.
Despite winning rave reviews for his takes on smashes like Chris Brown‘s ‘Under the Influence,’ Doechii‘s ‘What It Is (Block Boy),‘ and other tunes in the past, fans weren’t exactly as receptive of his spin of Tyla’s tune (which recently broke into the Hot 100’s top 40 for the first time).
A wash in more ways than one, the actor-singer was criticized about everything from his vocal embellishments and unique facial expressions to his racy reversal of the Sammy Soso-produced bop’s subject matter.
Look below for some of the disapproving reactions.

@trevorjackson5 What it would sound like if i was on “Water” by Tyla #TMixTuesday #Tyla #water #tmix ♬ Water – Tyla
I didn’t see anything wrong it.
I swear People are sometimes so f*** tiresome!!!This is a perfect example of d***riding/bandwagon!
This is good. A bit dramatic but It just shows he’s a passionate singer.
My problem is the autotune. A shame he is not where Chris Brown is. SOOOO Handsome!
Honestly, the facial expression did make me laugh, but he seemed really passionate about the lyrics he added in and I’m not gonna lie it does sound fire, but when other people watch this they really dickriding this s*** till the end. YouTubers of all kinds are making fun of this poor man and Twitter taking it seriously like he killed they momma or something.
