GRAMMYs: Kirk Franklin Joins JAY-Z, Kanye West, & Stevie Wonder On Historic List of Black Men with 20+ Career Wins

Published: Sunday 4th Feb 2024 by Rashad

Before 2024, only 18 acts in the GRAMMY’s 66-year history could boast owning at least 20 of its coveted golden gramophones. Among them, only one-fifth were Black men.

However, thanks to trophies handed out at Sunday’s ceremony (February 4) the odds were lifted the latter’s favor.

Details inside.

After rocking the GRAMMY pre-show with a stunning medley of his iconic hits (as seen above), Gospel superstar Kirk Franklin collected his 20th golden gramophone – this time in the Best Gospel Performance/Song category for his tune ‘All Things’ (defeating Stanley Brown, Erica Campbell, Zacardi Cortez, and Melvin Crispell III for the honor).

The victory puts him in an exclusive class of Black male artists who can boast having at least 20 trophies to their names – a list led by the legendary producer-songwriter Quincy Jones (28).

Behind him is Stevie Wonder (25) followed by JAY-Z and Kanye West (24 each) and now Franklin (20).

Check out the full winner’s list to see who else took home a golden gramophone.
