Billboard 200: Beyonce Makes History as ‘Cowboy Carter’ Debuts at #1 With the Year’s BIGGEST Sales

Published: Sunday 7th Apr 2024 by Sam

Beyonce has ridden triumphantly to the top of the Billboard 200 with her new album ‘Cowboy Carter.’

And, true to form, she’s made history in the process.

Full story below…

The colossal LP arrived on March 29 as “Act II” of Queen Bey’s three-project arc following 2022’s Act I: ‘Renaissance.’

Serving as the diva’s formal foray into Country music, the project was preceded by chart-topping single ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ and promised to fuse a myriad of sounds. A promise it held to with splashes of Folk, Opera, and, of course, R&B.

Together with an eclectic list of guests such as Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Tanner Adell, and Willie Jones, all created the perfect swirl of buzz around the album – which has opened big on the US tally.

Indeed, per Billboard, ‘Cowboy Carter’ launches at #1 with the following Stateside units sold first:

407,000

It sees the LP arrive as the biggest-selling offering of the year so far.

Of ‘Carter’s total sum, streaming led the charge with 232,000 equivalent units – thanks to 300.41 million streams of the album’s 27 tracks.

It means ‘Cowboy Carter’ not only would have debuted at #1 based on streaming units alone. The LP would have been close to nabbing the highest-selling debut of the year based just on its streams alone.

The pure sales component of the total amounted to 168,000.

There’s more.

Beyonce makes history by becoming the first female artist to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 with each of her eight solo studio albums.

She also scores a #1 on the Top Country Albums, making her the first Black woman ever to have led the list since its dating to its January 1964 inception.

Huge congrats!
