As Rap Queen Nicki Minaj continues to conquer arenas around the world on her top-selling ‘Pink Friday 2 Tour,’ she’s continuing the conquer the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) courtesy of the ongoing success of the global jaunt’s namesake.
On Friday (March 29), the RIAA took to press to reveal Minaj’s fifth solo studio album – ‘Pink Friday 2‘ – had crossed its threshold for Platinum status thanks to an impressive recipe of sales and streams. The achievement means the project has earned the sales equivalence of 1 million units in the United States alone.
Her fifth studio effort to be certified as high or higher, ‘PF2’ follows ‘Pink Friday’ (3x Platinum), ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded‘ (2x Platinum), ‘The Pinkprint’ (2x Platinum), and ‘Queen‘ (Platinum).
Thanks to the win, Minaj not only becomes the first female rapper this century to nab 5 Platinum albums but joins fellow history-making rapper Missy Elliott as the only female emcees to own at least 5 Platinum LPs overall. At writing, Elliott holds the record with 6.
Among all solo rappers, only JAY-Z (13), Eminem (11), Drake (10), 2Pac, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne (9), and LL Cool J, Nas, and Snoop Dogg (7) have more.
Already a personal standout in her discography as it was her first LP to have a #1 hit on the Hot 100 preceding it (‘Super Freaky Girl‘), ‘PF2’ opened atop the Billboard 200 in December to historic measure.
Missy went multi platinum in PURE sales.

This digital era is overrun by chart manipulation and inflated stats. How can an album that sold <60k first week be certified platinum a few months later, with no hit singles (HER, for example).
