Published: Monday 22nd Apr 2024 by Ryan

Taylor Swift has unleashed ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ – her eleventh album.

Led by ‘Fortnight,’ the project sees Swift explore the end of a relationship as well as her complicated relationship with fame.

That Grape Juice has been spinning the LP since its release. Join us below to find out which five tracks are essential on ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’

5. Clara Bow

Taylor Swift uses her soft-rock instrumentals to showcase her complicated relationship with fame in a song that turns self-referential by the end.

4. The Prophecy

Following in similar footsteps as ‘Clara Bow,’ Swift once again reflects on her relationship with fame and her desire to be loved for who she is above all else.

3. But Daddy I Love Him

One of the few upbeat songs on ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ sees Swift go back to her country-pop roots and showcase how she could have fully developed that sound over the years.

2. The Albatross

Sonically a sister to Swift’s song ‘Ivy’ from ‘Evermore,’ ‘The Albatross’ features a sparse instrumental with one of her best four-line passages in the middle of the song.

1. The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

It’s strange to think this song was not a track 5 as those tend to be Swift’s most emotional. Featuring emotional blow after emotional blow, Swift is exposed and broken in a way she has not showed to the public before as she tells the story of a doomed relationship. The best song on the project is also among the year’s best.
