When it comes to digital single sales, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Beyonce reign as the undoubted Queens leading a court of some of music history’s biggest female movers and shakers.
In fact, Rih, Swift, and Bey were the only three female acts over the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) 71-year history who could boast having earned over 30 Platinum-certified singles before summer 2024.
However, thanks to hits from her latest chart-topping album, ‘Eternal Sunshine,’ GRAMMY-winning diva Ariana Grande has joined the historic list of ladies.
Details inside.
Not even three months after she made history on the Billboard Hot 100 with her latest chart-topper ‘We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love),‘ Grande saw the tune lifted to Platinum status at the RIAA for sales of 1 million in the United States.
Marking the 31st song of her career to reach such marker, ‘Friends’ makes Ariana only the fourth female in history to own over 30 Platinum-certified hits. Among women, only Swift (49), Rihanna (45), and Beyonce (40) can boast ownership of more.
When all acts are considered, Ari ranks 14th behind Drake (80), Kanye West (51), Swift, Post Malone (45), Rihanna, Eminem (41), Beyonce, Morgan Wallen (39), The Weeknd (38), Chris Brown and Future (37 each), Justin Bieber and Juice WRLD (33 each), J. Cole, NBA YoungBoy, and Lil Wayne (32 each) on the all-time list.
Note: the RIAA only credits certifications to songs’ lead acts, so Platinum-certified hits by any of the aforementioned do not apply to their respective career counts.
Taylor, Katy, Ariana and Rico are my favorites. They are the quadruple queens of slayage.
