According to data from Luminate’s midyear report, Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is the biggest album of the year so far and it is not even close.
Pure sales alone accounted for 2.474 million copies through the first half of 2024. The album in second place was Billie Eilish‘s ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ with 306,000 physical copies. Including Eilish, the other top 10 albums only sold 1.924 million pure units combined.
It is not only pure sales though. In terms of streams, Swift’s ‘Poets’ is a streaming giant with 2.753 billion streams. 500 million in front of her closest competition.
Between sales and streams, ‘Poets’ sits at 4.66 million album equivalent units. The album closest to it is Morgan Wallen‘s ‘One Thing At A Time’ with 1.776 million units.
