After years of being one of Urban Pop’s most consistent performers Tinashe isn’t only getting her overdue flowers from music lovers but from peers as well.
As her recent hit song ‘Nasty‘ continues its ascent up the Billboard Hot 100 (reportedly set to reach a new peak in the chart’s third quadrant this week), more and more celebrities – from Karamo and Mario Lopez to Azealia Banks and others – are showing their appreciation to the Ricky Reed-produced jam.
For Tinashe, however, the standout shout-outs came from two of her idols: Christina Aguilera and Janet Jackson.
On hand at the 2024 BET Awards to perform as part of the show-stopping tribute to Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Usher, Tinashe rocked the red carpet ahead of the showing to dish on her new album, future plans, and – of course – the success of her latest hit ‘Nasty.’
When quizzed about a highlight among the responses to the single, she shouted out Janet (who she also performed a BET Awards tribute to in 2015).
“To have Janet remix my song in her show? Top-tier, iconic moment of my life. Bucket list; amazing,” Sweet T shared (as seen in the video above). “She’s the queen, so to be acknowledged by her in a small way means so much.“
Later in the interview, Tinashe elaborated on how she idolizes Jackson for “setting the standard of being able to genre blend” and so much more.

Praise of the Pop Queen came just days after T made headlines for sharing similar elation over Xtina.
“She was a hero of mine growing up,” Tinashe said after sharing she was “star struck” the GRAMMY-winning diva used ‘Nasty’ in a social media video. “Her and Britney [Spears] were absolute queens when I was younger. So I think just having that co-sign was pretty epic. I screamed.”
The news comes as fans continue to try to guess which “big-name female star” could potentially be the guest on the highly anticipated ‘Nasty’ remix.

I make fun of her, but good for her. I’m happy to see her work paying off.
