Billboard 200: Travis Scott’s ‘Days Before Rodeo’ Rides Past Sabrina Carpenter To Claim #1 Spot Thanks to Historic Vinyl Sales

Published: Sunday 22nd Sep 2024 by Rashad

Weeks after Sabrina Carpenter controversially triumphed over Travis Scott in one of this decades most nail-biting showdowns on the Billboard 200, the latter has turned the tide thanks to the introduction of vinyl editions of his ‘Days Before Rodeo’ project.

More inside.

As reported here, Carpenter’s blockbuster sixth studio album – ‘Short N’ Sweet’ – narrowly ascended to the top of the all-genre chart despite whopping sales of 362,000 its first week (less than 1000 copies more than Scott).

And while Sabrina managed to keep a grip on the position in the weeks that followed thanks to sustained sales of over 100,000 weekly, Scott’s ‘Days’ descended to historic measure to the hitlist’s lower half.

Its success narrative changed, however, when Travis dropped the vinyl edition of the project sold exclusively from his Web store.

Earning total sales of 156,000 over the last commercial tracking week, ‘Rodeo’ rises from #106 to #1 on the updated tally.

With vinyls comprising 149,000 of that sales sum, the figure marks the biggest vinyl sales week in Billboard 200 history for a Rap album.  Among all genres, it’s the sixth-largest vinyl sales week.

Initially unveiled as a free release in 2014, ‘Rodeo’ was repackaged for wide commercial release to digital outlets in August 2024.

The project marks his fourth consecutive Billboard 200 chart-topper following 2023’s ‘Utopia,’ 2018’s ‘AstroWorld,’ and 2016’s ‘Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.’
