Joe Budden has a strong stance on the state of the modern music scene.
More details below…
Noah Callahan-Bever appeared on ‘Idea Generation’s’ where he asked Budden if artists should sign to a major label today.
“Now more than ever, I don’t really see it. I don’t really see the benefit,” Budden said.
“Because you used to have to rely on a record label for almost everything, and today you don’t. You couldn’t distribute, you couldn’t market, you couldn’t pay for things, you couldn’t get radio, you couldn’t get listeners without them,” he continued.
“Today, if you have your own team, and most people that work with labels they have their own team, to kind of take care of things, there’s nothing you pretty much cannot do. o what are you signing for? What do you want out of it?” he added.
Who does he think he is / do people actually respect his opinion.
If someone like JoJo said this, it would make sense. They fd up her career. Record labels can help boost artist’s visibility. Most the stuff like radio, YouTube, Spotify….all those suggested playlists and music/videos that playing on auto – that’s not random. Independent artists don’t get that sort of luxury so yeah it can be worth it to get signed. But it doesn’t mean guaranteed success. People either like you / your content or not
Lol there’s no real benefit for being signed to a label if your goal is to create art. If your goal is to be famous, then maybe. Thats when you get the ice spices, cardi b, etc. Even financially if you dont have a major push (which most are not getting today) you will just sit and be shelved. Many major artists we have yet to hear of still waiting for that budget to open up.
