Madonna‘s 1990 #1 hit ‘Vogue‘ may sit as one of music history’s most timeless Pop songs (and her best-selling single to date), but for all the critical acclaim it’s garnered over the last three decades there’s at least one music star who can say she’s NOT a fan: Azealia Banks.
The outspoken Banks, who is no stranger to making headlines more for her controversial social media rants than her placement on the charts, landed in hot water with dedicated fans of the Queen of Pop after she took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to royally diss ‘Vogue’ on Sunday night (October 13).
“‘Vogue’ by Madonna is such a trash record just based on Madonna’s seriously limited vocal capabilities,” Azealia told her 136,000 followers on the platform. “Martha Wash really should have sang [it]. She would have actually done it justice. I could even cover ‘Vogue’ and give it it’s jsut due in the place of the Gay Musical Lexicon.”
As if that incendiary comment wasn’t enough to ruffle the feathers of Madge supporters, Banks continued by weighing in on the Pop diva’s vocals.
“I’m a much better singer than Madonna,” she relayed before saying, “That song should not be sang by such a mid-vocalist. It’s like cheese that won’t melt.”
