For reasons good, bad, ugly, and everything in between, 2024 was one for the books!
As the year draws to a close, That Grape Juice is reflecting on the occasions that rocked – and to some degree – maybe even reshaped the Urban and Pop cultural landscape as we know it.
Next, we’ll talk about how Beyonce‘s history-making album ‘Cowboy Carter‘ is gearing up for success at the 2025 GRAMMYs despite being snubbed by Country music award shows all year long.
The week ‘Cowboy’ rode onto the Billboard 200, Bey broke Pop Queen Janet Jackson‘s longstanding record for most #1 albums among Black women in the history of the album chart.
Just months later, she nabbed headlines for tying a MAJOR record by Janet’s brother – King of Pop Michael Jackson – when ‘Cowboy’ and its content galloped to a whopping 11 nominations at the 2025 GRAMMYs including Song, Record, and Album of the year.

With its slew of mentions, ‘Carter’ quietly tied Jackson as the artist with the most nods from a single album.
While Jackson’s game-changing, 1982 ‘Thriller‘ LP captured 12 nominations for the entire project, MJ was only nominated for 11 of them as the other went to producers and behind-the-scenes acts. Since Bey is actually nominated for the 11 captured by ‘Carter’ for next year, she tied the King’s longtime record.
Her beloved fans (affectionately called the #Beyhive) won’t find out until February 2, 2025, however, if she ties or surpasses his record for most wins in one night as ‘Thriller’ collected a whopping 8 trophies.
At writing, the only other artist to do that is Santana.
In some regards, Bey can already be looked at as a winner as ‘Carter’ made her the most-nominated act in GRAMMY history – a status that adds to her existent title of most-awarded act in GRAMMY history.

Meanwhile, Pink passes beyonce as the highest grossing tour for female over 40. Pink now occupies 2 entries in top 5 all time high. Congrats Pink!
Happy new year beyhives🎇🪳

Michael Jackson is on another level. Beyonce is not. Cowboy Carter is not as iconic and legendary as thriller.
Good for Bey. She’s doing her thing,
Good for Bey. She’s doing her thing,
Michael Jackson and who?
Thriller is phenomenal and earth shattering record. I can’t say the same for the other one.
No Boys Allowed is way better album than Cowboy Cart.
I can’t even lie, No Boys Allowed was one of the best releases in RnB that year. Was even better than Rihannas Loud imo. She should have kept going after that smh
Barf! 😂😂😂😳
😂 It just proves how overrated she is, ain’t no way CC is even in the same space as Thriller.
That’s pure payola. At this point every award or nomination she gets will only prove that. I used to like and appreciate her, but since her personality is long gone, she’s married to JZ, she doesn’t make genuine art, and just looking for praise awards and admiration. I’m not the fan I used to be.
The truth is CC doesn’t have the same level of competition as Thriller did. The fact that Thriller could get that many nominations during a time when there was so much timeless, iconic music in the industry says a lot about the impact of Thriller. CC was able to garner just as many nominations for two reasons, one it spans over several genres so that the noms are spreaded amongst various genres/categories, and two based on today’s competition it is the cream of the crop. No one is saying it’s at the level of Thriller, nothing is, not even MJs subsequent albums, and most likely nothing will ever be. But CC is a great album, easily the best of the year, and is hands down the most diverse.
You must understand that there is a difference between quality production and a good album. This is definitely not the album of the year.
Beyonce could 💩 in a jar, and she would get praised and awarded. Has this heaux cast a spell on the whole world? Nobody wins this much unless there’s some rigging going on.
Fax¡
Breaking the deceased’s records gets no respect from me. Mariah out here breaking her own records <— THAT'S commendable. The ONLY song I liked enough to download from Coward Carter is Bodyguard; it was the closest thing to Popyoncé I kinda miss. 🤞

Wow.

Beyonce released an album full of mediocre songs, trying to appeal to the white audience. Nothing groundbreaking there. Meanwhile, Janet & co have been creating original songs, videos etc for many decades now. I used to like Bey but come on. There are many great female performers outthere like Ciara, Tinashe, Amerie… they are all authentic unlike Bey. How is she a cowboy?
By riding the anti Jay wave? 🙃
If she recorded complex BDay in 2 weeks, simplistic Coward Carter musta taken 2 days.
Renaissance III should be POP.
