Just three months after sending Taylor Swift fans (affectionately called #Swifties) into an uproar for crowning Beyonce the greatest Pop star of the century, Billboard has redeemed itself in the fan group’s eyes by giving Swift the #1 spot of their new ‘Top Woman Artist of the 21st Century’ list.
After weeks of suspense, Billboard took to social media on Wednesday (March 19) to unveil the final 20 female acts of their latest countdown.
Lifted in honor of March being Women’s History Month, the list is compiled based on each hitmaker’s performance on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts since January 1, 2000.
Unsurprisingly, Swift – who the music magazine also named ‘Top Artist of the 21st Century’ (not to be confused with greatest Pop star) – topped the Women’s tally given that she’s notched a whopping 14 No. 1s on the Billboard 200 and 12 No. 1s on the Hot 100 in the timeframe specified.
What’s more, she’s also notched 59 top 10s and 264 overall placements on the latter hitlist (both figures are the highest of all time among women).

Seems about right! I’m surprised Beyonce is number 3, i would have thought top 5 for sure, because I thought Adele would have rounded out the top 3 since this is based on sales. And well we all know Rihanna was that girl in terms of churning out hit after hit and back to back albums. I do think that had she continued going and not taken a break, she would have been number 1. But yeah def no surprise Taylor Swift is number 1. Congrats to her.
Mariah at number 12 is simply… wow.
A true testament to her talent, influence and overall success.
Light years apart from her peers nowhere to be see and heard.
