The drama between Drake and Kendrick Lamar continues but this time the battle has moved from the charts to the courtroom.

Universal Music Group (UMG) has officially filed a motion to dismiss Drake’s defamation lawsuit, which he launched earlier this year over Lamar’s viral diss track ‘Not Like Us.’
Drake claimed UMG promoted a “false and malicious narrative” about him by supporting the song’s release, but the label isn’t backing down.
In freshly filed legal documents, UMG argues that:
“Drake’s complaint is utterly without merit and should be dismissed with prejudice.
It is utterly without merit and should be dismissed with prejudice.
[Drake] is one of the most successful recording artists of all time; [he] lost a rap battle that he provoked and in which he willingly participated. Instead of accepting the loss like the unbothered rap artist he often claims to be, he has sued his own record label in a misguided attempt to salve his wounds.”
Ouch.
There’s more. For, it continued:
“Assessed in context, as it must be, Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ clearly conveys nonactionable opinion and rhetorical hyperbole.”
The juggernaut noted the song’s Grammy wins and its inclusion at Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.
With UMG holding its ground and Lamar still riding high from the track’s impact, it looks like Drake’s legal battle could be a tough one.
