Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins Wishes Beyoncé’s AOTY Win Had Been for One of Her R&B Projects

Published: Wednesday 16th Apr 2025 by Malik Davis

In a new interview, superproducer Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins shared his thoughts on Beyoncé‘s Album of the Year Grammy win.

Full story below…

Jerkins, who has worked closely with Beyoncé on numerous hits, including ‘Déjà Vu’ — which Rolling Stone called Beyoncé’s greatest hit — reflected on the achievement in a sit-down with Digiwaxx.

When asked about the Grammy win, Jerkins said:

“I congratulated her on that achievement. Personally, I wanted to see it with an R&B record, and I feel like she would say the same thing.”

He also reminisced about the B’Day album he worked on, expressing that it should have earned a Grammy.

Watch the Interview below…

He drew a comparison to Denzel Washington’s Oscar win for ‘Training Day’, instead of his other notable performances.

“It’s like Denzel winning for Training Day — he should’ve won for John Q, But he won for the drug dealer role.”

Her total career Grammy wins now sit at 35 – the most of any artist ever.

Regardless, the producer is proud to have been a part of Beyoncé’s journey and her rollercoaster success leading to the Album of the Year Grammy win.

I agree. Bday, Sasha fierce and lemonade was a masterpiece. Her vocal range was on point. But either way, a win is a win. However I know Beyoncé’s core fans don’t listen to cowboy carter.

Why when she was stealing from other artists Who said that she’s plagiarizing their work

I Am was an awful album and it was not rnb.

Her best rnb record was B Day followed by 4 and then Dangerously in Love.

She is a copycat the Grammy board knew that and She only won Aothy for country because Jayz said something 🤠

I love That Cowboy Carter won AOTY very much because it’s a Beyoncé album that is paid in full. I listen to it everyday since its release, and I can’t wait to attend the Cowboy Carter Tour! I will say that at least one of her RNB focused albums also deserves an additional AOTY.

Dang!! I can’t pick favorites! I listen to this album daily with a side of Renaissance 🫶🏾

Darkchild-la-la and Timabaland are both the sound of a generation. Period.
You can be proud of it even if your records didn’t win any Grammy!

  5. THE TRUTH 🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨 April 16, 2025

She doesn’t have a classic ageless album because she works with too many producers and it’s just not cohesive. 200 producers for each album just means she’s a singles factory. She screams to much on B’day and it’s all over the place. an album deserves a Grammy when the entire album works as one cohesive body of work and it’s GOOD.

She got it this time because her husband threatened the Grammys. Charli XCX was supposed to win

      You deluluuuu

    • Diabetes UNBOTHERED April 16, 2025

Lmao, you’ve stated NOTHING but LIES… I don’t even know where to start, 😆 but we can start with Charli XCX 🤮

    • Hmmm… April 16, 2025

yeahhh you just talking out your behind. Didnt even try to make sense. Renaissance and Lemonade aren’t cohesive… but then mentions Charlie xcx… lmao, BYE

    • Scoopz April 16, 2025

Entirely subjective. Many would disagree and say she has multiple classic albums.

The critical acclaim her last 4 studio albums have received is also indicative of future classic status.

Beyoncé, Lemonade, Renaissance and Cowboy Carter. If i was to pick one that would almost universally be called an ageless album it would be Lemonade.

    • yup! April 16, 2025

BIG FACTS! Nothing timeless about her trash. She is the most unimaginative, unoriginal, plagiaristic, to do it in a long time. And still ends up with noisy filler. Her only good solo album would be her first. And even then it was over-hyped.

      • Dicky Jones April 16, 2025

Ugh 😩 I can’t wait for this tour to start.
        P.S
I love how the hate lift us up so we will be raised 🤠

I think lemonade is the closest thing she has to an ageless classic.

    • Damn April 17, 2025

All her albums are outdated. Her HITS with DC are her best work and even with DC she doesn’t deserve have a Grammy for album of the year.

On the other hand every Aaliyah album is a masterpiece.
