For Mariah Carey, all roads lead to the September 26 unveiling of her new album ‘Here for It All‘ – her first traditional LP release since 2018’s ‘Caution.’
And while excitement for the effort is already at a feverish pitch, Carey is looking to take it into overdrive by lifting the lid on yet another single from the highly anticipated set: ‘Sugar Sweet.’

Tapping in GRAMMY-nominated beauties Kehlani and Shenseea to assist, the new tune marks the follow-up to Mariah’s milestone hit ‘Type Dangerous.’

Sonically better than type dangerous. Not sure if it’s her 20th number 1. Kehlani and Shenseea feature helped. Interesting choice collaborating with Kehlani, considering how Kehlani’s live performances have been cancelled recently. Collaborating with Sabrina Carpenter could have worked. Anyway, the lambs better work hard to get this top 10 / top 20. With the right MV, this could get top 40.

MUCH better than the “dangerous” tracks and quite catchy.
But as someone else said, she needs to make BANGERS aka uptempo. The horrendous mid-tempos trend that has been ongoing for the past 20 years have made R&B quite irrelevant on the global scale.
What uptempo MC tracks have ever reached number 1? Most of her number 1’s are slow / mid tempo.
They meant like TOUCH MY BODY & LIKE THAT, upbeat in STYLE not tempo.

Thanks 🙏🏼 that makes sense. See I thought Touch My Body, Shake It Off and It’s Like That were mid tempo in BPM…but I get it — they do feel upbeat because of the vibe / production / vocal arrangement.
When I think of her uptempos, I think of songs like Emotions and Fantasy. Mid tempo has worked well for her like classics Always Be My Baby, Dreamlover, Honey, Heartbreaker, Obsessed.
Sugar Sweet is nice and it’s contemporary but feels like album filler. But maybe the minimal approach is what she’s going for / in line with her current vocal range

Mariah still got it, she is definitely still capable of putting out a number 1. Her pen game is still strong, still sounds decent (not as good as before but still better than most today), still looks good and still has a fan base. Problem is not so much her but production. She stays with the same old producers. They put out boring records. Lyrically great just nothing outstanding melody wise.
