BET Hip-Hop and Soul Train awards suspended

BET has just dropped a major bombshell – both the BET Hip-Hop Awards and the Soul Train Awards have been suspended indefinitely.

Full story below…

BET CEO Scott Mills told Billboard the move is about the shift in media habits and financial realities for BET’s linear channel, he said:

“So for BET line, we have suspended the Soul Train and Hip Hop award shows.”

The awards aren’t canceled forever; BET is reportedly exploring where they’d best fit in a digital-first world.

So, no more Hip-Hop cyphers lighting up fall and no more bold Soul Train tributes shining in the winter for now.

Still, these shows were pillars of Black music culture, and while the platform may change, the absence hits deep.

Will you miss the shows?

Aww.. Hip Hop overall is dying and the ones that promoted this op/drug music instead of lyrical meaningful music are the ones to blame so petty and childish it doest represent America. It represent 🐒

Good riddance. This kind of payola award is just a tool to sell adverts and just a shallow popularity contest. Nothing more, nothing less.

Sh!t was trash and low quality anyway.
We need better representation if we’re gonna have any. That sht was ghett* as fcuk and 1,000 leagues below every other type of award ceremony. Even the Latina music awards is 1,000,000x more classier than the BET Awards. Why do we celebrate few knobheads? They are all junkies and druggies anyway?

I will definitely miss the Soul Train Music Awards. It’s generally been better than the BET awards for many years, in my opinion. By suspending the others, I hope this means they plan to improve the BET awards, they could really serve the purpose of all 3 into that one annual show if they include classic, old school R&B AND Hip-Hop, every year, like they use to.

I agree. I’ll miss the Soul Train Awards too. It’s always been OUR awards show that recognized the less mainstream good black artists. But it did start to overlap with the BET awards in terms of similar categories, performers, and quality. It only makes sense that they would consolidate them into one really robust show. Let’s hope they don’t fcuk this up.
