Doja Cat is strutting her way to the release of her new album ‘Vie’ this Friday (September 26).
And her latest stop was CBS Sunday Mornings.
During the insightful sit-down, the 29-year-old (born Amala Dlamini) opened up about the ‘Jealous Type’-led project, which bills as her return to Pop, how she defines herself artistically, protecting herself from dangerous coping mechanisms, growth, and more.

Speaking with host Michelle Miller, Doja shared:
On Her New Album ‘Vie’:
“I’m very excited. It’s things I wasn’t able to do before. I couldn’t hit certain riffs or runs – I used to joke about that and pretend to be a singer-singer. But I sucked it up and stopped joking and took myself more seriously.”
On The Project’s Sound:
“‘Vie’ feels like an evolved version of all of those things.” (Amala, Hot Pink, & Planet Her)”

On How She Defines Herself Musically:
“Pop. I think I’m a rapper who makes Pop music.
I’m a singer, a writer, a rapper, an artist, a creator, a world builder, and an OK businesswoman.”
On Protecting Herself:
“I’m protecting myself in a different way. I was doing things (before) that weren’t actually protective. Alcohol and things like that. They are a short-lived way of dealing with either anxiety or pain. So, I learned to steer myself.”
