L.A. Reid Settles Sexual Assault Lawsuit Just as Trial Was Set to Begin

On the very day his civil trial was due to kick off, Grammy-winning music executive L.A. Reid quietly brought a long-running legal battle to an end.

The industry heavyweight reached a settlement with former Arista Records executive Drew Dixon, who accused him of sexual assault, harassment, and career retaliation stemming from incidents in the early 2000s.

Dixon alleged that after rejecting Reid’s advances, her professional opportunities were systematically undermined, stalling her ability to develop new artists and ultimately pushing her out of the label. The case was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, a law Dixon publicly championed as a pathway to accountability.

While settlement terms remain undisclosed and Reid denies wrongdoing, Dixon called the resolution a small but meaningful step toward a safer music industry, in a statement reported by The New York Times, she says:

“I hope my work as an advocate for the Adult Survivors Act helps to bring us closer to a safer music business for everyone, In a world where good news is often hard to find, I hope for survivors that today is a ray of light peeking through the clouds.”
