While Rock claimed he doesn’t fault the Puerto Rican superstar personally, he took issue with the NFL.
He accused the league of putting Bad Bunny in a controversial position.
Rock went a step further by targeting Jay-Z, who oversees halftime show selections, labeling him a “DEI hire,” continuing rhetoric that has resonated with his conservative fanbase.
The rocker shared:
“I don’t fault that kid for doing the Super Bowl, getting in front of a global audience,” Rock said. “I fault the NFL for putting him in that position and Turning Point for having to come out and have an alternative for people to watch. You know, it’s just — poor kid.”
Despite the controversy, the numbers tell a different story.
Benito’s Halftime performance has since become one of the most-watched Super Bowl halftime shows to date, while Kid Rock’s Turning Point USA performance reportedly pulled in just 6.1 million views, with viewers also accusing the singer of lip-syncing.
In the court of viewership, the winner seems clear, regardless of Rock’s criticism.
