Speaking with Forbes’ The Enterprise Zone, the 47-year-old was asked to sum up key figures in his life in one word. When it came to Combs, he responded with “legacy.”
Pressed further, the singer expanded on his viewpoint.
“In many ways, I think certain people are prosecuted and maybe not recognized for the greatness that they offer. I don’t have anything negative to say about Sean Combs because my experience was not what the world has seen and how he’s been misrepresented.”
The Atlanta native went on to describe the Bad Boy founder as a “mentor,” likening him to a tough teacher who shaped his early career.
“I can’t, with any sense of humanity, not recognize the valuable contributions that this man made for us as Black entrepreneurs, for us as businessmen, for us as people who transition culture and ideas into something that’s tangible.”
Diddy is currently serving a 50-month sentence following prostitution-related convictions, a reality that has fueled criticism of Usher’s remarks. Online, some fans voiced disdain, questioning the optics of his continued support.
