Trick Daddy Says “Michael Jackson Ain’t No SANGER” Like Luther / Reiterates Beyonce “Ain’t Terrible” But Still Can’t Sing

Published: Friday 24th Apr 2026 by Rashad

If Trick Daddy hasn’t already ruffled enough feathers this week for his comments about “not dating women over 40,” the 51-year-old is back on the radar of the #Beyhive for doubling down on his belief that Beyonce – one of the most revered vocalists of her generation – has limited vocal ability and “can barely sing.”

Chatting it up with GRAMMY-winning vocalist Monica during the latest episode of his popular Web cooking series, Trick (born Maurice Young) reflected on the viral blowback he endured in 2021 after first asserting his thoughts on Bey’s singing.

“She’s not terrible…but that’s just not what I’m used to,” he said after complimenting Mo as closer to his standard of acceptable vocal performances.

Monica credited his right to “have his own opinion,” but also nodded to the Beyhive for “doing what they were supposed to do” in defense of their favorite.

In throwing Bey a bone, he did acknowledge her for being “an exciting performer” but remained steadfast in his belief that her singing wasn’t noteworthy.

To further illustrate his point, he even turned to the King of Pop Michael Jackson (who he claims his is favorite artist).

“I think he is Jesus Christ to what Pop and R&B is, but he ain’t no ‘singer.’ He ain’t no Luther [Vandross],” Young exclaimed.

Ouch! The commentary comes barely a year after Trick dropped by the NeNe Leakes podcast to declare Beyonce “is talented,” but he “still doesn’t consider her a vocalist.”

    DIVA: technical, beautiful, emotive!
Bey is a technically perfect robot.
The great Callas cried after vocally
    perfect but, emotionless, operas!
    Whitney couldn’t emote, either.
Nor could Aretha (Cissy did 4 her!)
Mariah is hit & miss. Céline does.
Toni can. Tamar does it too much.
JHud can’t. Mo can’t. Brandy can.
    MJ vocals either too rough/kid-like.

    Somewhat disagree….

It’s unfortunate that people spend so much energy trying to destroy other people’s lives, instead of focusing on improving theirs.

  4. Nah Bruh April 25, 2026

Anyone familiar with the Jackson 5’s catalog knows that Michael Jackson was a SANGER!! He just did pop music. You can’t tour globally, sing your soul out at top range, and do choreography. But his range, vocal agility, and abilities could definitely go toe-to-toe with Luther and many other male r&b singers.

  5. Scoopz April 25, 2026

    Monica checked him.

This conversation highlighted that the problem is, he just hasnt been exposed to enough of her singing in order to make a fair assessment. If hes only hearing Bugaboo, Jumpin Jumpin, Check On It all the big radio hits then of course hes gonna think thats her capacity.

Monica vouched for Beyonce well here and highlighted she is very much a talented singer and got Trick to admit he just hasnt heard Beyoncé sing that much.

Said someone with no falsetto, belting, mezzo soprano, pitching , high note…

      How can a MAN be a Mezzo-Soprano? 🤣

      • Mar April 25, 2026

Uhhhh Tevin Campbell. There are plenty of males who have that type of range and tone.

    • Juicée April 26, 2026

Mezzo is a woman. Sorpano is a woman. Combo only applies to a woman. The Fach system doesn’t take into consideration social media generated “pronouns”. Maybe you mean Tevin Campbell is a Bari-Tenor?

I have always felt the same way about B I think she can sing but she’s not a vocalist she’s more of an entertainer that can sing just not knock your socks off singing. Michael is a better vocalist than her but he’s more of an entertainer too and there’s quite a few male vocalist better than him

Your feelings are not reflected in objective reality. Beyonce is one of the most technically skilled vocalists in mainstream music. Too many unqualified people are voicing off on this subject without insight or humility.

Singing has its subjective qualities (e.g style, feels and tone) but then there are objective qualities which cannot be denied that Beyonce possesses in spades. Agility, dynamic control, pitch accuracy, seamless transitions, variable vibrato, developed modal, mixed and head voice.

Too many unqualified people rank singers based on the subjective qualities with minimal knowledge on the objective qualities and make ridiculous statements like Beyonce is more of an entertainer than a vocalist. Thats ludicrous. Jennifer Lopez, Mya, Janet or Ciara are examples of those who are more entertainers than vocalists.

Be humble and develop your knowledge before wading into these discussions and asserting such nonsense

On paper she’s absolutely a great singer. But black people have our own, very much qualified, standard of what a great singer sounds like to us, and rightfully so! Beyonce’s technical skills lack the power, emotion, and passion that we associate with being a great singer.

      • Scoopz April 25, 2026

Youve just proven my point. Youre citing subjective factors. You cant have standards on subjective factors as theyre different from individual to individual and shaped by individuals personal exposures.

Vocal pedagogy is across the board, objective and universal standards for the technicalities of singing. If you are not familiar with those objective standards then you are in no position to objectively assess the ability pf a singer with any credibility.

You can subjectively say of you like someones voice, tone, style or if you connect with them emotionally. But none of that speaks for how skilled a singer is. It just speaks for your background and exposures which shape how you respond to different things.

      • detruth April 25, 2026

Who died and made u the vocalist God? Give it a rest regardless of the book u typed she’s not a great vocalist. Can she sing? Yes. Is she 1 of the best in the biz when it comes to vocals? No simple as that. Stop trying to make fetch happen.

      • Sing Along April 26, 2026

First, even within vocal pedagogy, there isn’t a single universal agreement on all standards. Different schools of training (classical, contemporary commercial music, jazz, etc.) prioritize different tonal qualities, stylistic choices, and even definitions of “good” technique. What’s considered ideal in opera would not necessarily be ideal in pop or R&B.

Second, assessing a singer isn’t just about technical execution. Tone color, emotional delivery, stylistic authenticity, phrasing, and artistic interpretation all matter—and those are inherently shaped by cultural context and personal perception. Two technically proficient singers can be judged very differently depending on the listener’s taste or exposure.

Finally, being familiar with technical standards doesn’t grant complete objectivity, it just narrows the margin of subjectivity. Even trained vocal coaches can disagree when evaluating the same singer, which shows that interpretation still plays a role.
So yes, technical knowledge adds credibility, but it doesn’t eliminate subjectivity. Singing sits at the intersection of science and art. You can measure parts of it, but you can’t reduce the whole experience to objective standards alone.

Beyonce is an entertainer!! Not a vocalist! A vocalist doesn’t sing lyrics!! That’s what she’s know for!! You beyhivers don’t like the truth!! He complimented her on what she’s good at! Accept that and STFU! No one refers to Beyonce as songbird supreme , or the voice! Get over it!

    • Juicée April 26, 2026

MJ was an intense singer kinda like Aguilera, when he wasn’t overusing the “cry” technique kinda like Celine, or whispering kinda like Janet. George Michael was a better singer in my ears’ opinion.

  8. Sing Along April 25, 2026

Beyonce’s brand doesn’t claim that she’s a top tier singer. Singing is just one portion of her brand and she does it well enough to check that box. A lot of black people don’t understand this and try to discredit her by holding her to standards that don’t really matter to her brand. For whatever reasons, most people who can belt out vocals from the depths of their bellies and move you to tears will not rise to the level of Beyonce. Nor are they her competition.

    • Juicée April 26, 2026

Maybe better singers aren’t at her “deification” level because they refused to make sacrifices she didn’t mind making.

A diva is a singer with a beautiful, technically astounding voice that brings audiences to TEARS.

      Bey audit:
      Beautiful voice ❌️
      Great technique ✅️
      Emotive ability ❌️

But then, she herself thinks a diva is just the female version of a hustler.

      *Shrugs*

    • Getoverit April 26, 2026

Oh! So now Beyonce’s brand doesn’t promote her as a top tier singer??? LOL! Yoi Beyhivers don’t like to lose.

  9. yup! April 25, 2026

Fk Boreyawnsay! She doesn’t sound good anymore.
