The trailer for ‘Rolling Loud The Movie’ dropped on May 19. The comedy follows Wilson’s character as he brings his teenage son to the hip-hop festival and loses him in a crowd of 60,000 people.
Scott appears as himself, consoling Wilson. “The lengths you go to find your kid, that’s some superhero, super father s–t,” he says.
Live Nation Studios produced the film. The cast also includes Sexyy Red, Ty Dolla $ign, Ski Mask the Slump God, and comedian Matt Rife. The movie hits U.S. theaters on October 2.
But the trailer quickly sparked backlash.
Critics on social media pointed to the 2021 Astroworld tragedy, where 10 people died during Scott’s headlining set. Eight were pronounced dead on the day of the festival. Hundreds more were injured.
“You cannot ignore the history here,” one user wrote on X. Another called the casting “almost offensively tone deaf.”
