Tory Lanez is facing a fresh hurdle.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) filed a motion to dismiss his $100 million lawsuit over a prison stabbing.

The motion, filed on July 29, argues that federal courts lack jurisdiction over the agency. CDCR is asking the court to dismiss the complaint with prejudice, which would prevent Lanez from amending and refiling the case.
The lawsuit stems from a May 2025 stabbing at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Another inmate, Santino Casio, allegedly attacked Lanez with a homemade weapon. The rapper suffered 16 stab wounds across his head, face, back, and torso. The injuries caused two collapsed lungs, requiring emergency air transport to a hospital and time on a ventilator.
Lanez previously described the psychological impact of the assault. He said:
“Truthfully, I’ve done my best to keep my head above water, but mentally, I’ve gone through trauma that I sometimes even struggle with.”
His legal team alleges prison officials failed to protect him despite Casio’s history of violence. They also claim officials confiscated Lanez’s notebooks filled with unreleased music.
CDCR counters that it has immunity from the claims under the Eleventh Amendment.
