Chance The Rapper could be entering a new era with a very familiar name.
The Chicago star recently opened up about his iconic moniker during an appearance on the ‘Tea Time‘ podcast with Raven-Symoné and Miranda Maday, revealing he has been considering dropping the “Chance” altogether.
Full story below…
According to the rapper, his stage name was given to him by a girl at his high school, and while it has followed him throughout his career, he now feels drawn toward a simpler identity, revealing:
“I’ve been thinking about changing my name… I’m going to take off the ‘Chance.’ I just want to be ‘The Rapper,'”
He explained that the change reflects his evolving relationship with hip-hop, sharing that:
“It’s been something I’ve been thinking about a lot. I just really love the art form, I really love words. I think the greatest rappers, like myself, are etymologists and linguists at heart… And I think the ‘Chance’ part, I give a lot of vulnerability and looks into my life and what’s going on in my life… And I don’t love that as much now as I love just working within the genre and attacking things that aren’t necessarily so close to me sometimes.”
For now, it appears the potential rebrand remains a work in progress.
