Tinashe may be enjoying one of the most celebratory stretches of her career, but there is one industry milestone she says she has stopped chasing.
In the thick of the promotional push for her new album ‘Popstar,’ the singer sat down with Owen Thiele and was quizzed about her dreams for the future.
Her answer unexpectedly turned to the GRAMMYs and the fact that, more than a decade into her solo run, she has never received a nomination.
Full story below…
Speaking on ‘In Your Dreams with Owen Thiele’, Tinashe revealed:
“I would have loved to win a Grammy for, like, ever, but, like, I gave that one up.
I’ve never even been nominated. It’s okay. I gave it up. It’s fine. So now I’ve moved on to a family and children.”
Thiele was audibly stunned by the revelation, specifically pointing to her 2024 smash ‘Nasty’ as a glaring omission.
Tinashe agreed.
Indeed, despite the track becoming one of the defining hits of her career, ‘Nasty’ ultimately missed out on GRAMMY recognition.
Interestingly, ‘Nashe’s comments come just as her commercial fortunes appear to be climbing to fresh heights.
The critically acclaimed ‘Popstar’ is due to make its Billboard 200 debut, and HITS Daily Double currently forecasts an opening of approximately 27,000 units at #15.
Should that projection hold, the LP would sail past the #17 peak of 2014 debut ‘Aquarius’ and deliver her highest-charting album to date.
Suffice it to say, it would be quite the moment for a star who has made clear that she has stopped waiting on industry validation.
