As Bravo‘s top rated show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta has redefined the possibilities for not only its cast but for reality stars more broadly.
The latest name hoping to capitalize on the platform is current cast member Porsha Williams.
Newly divorced, it appears the former Mrs Kordell Stewart is looking to put the drama behind her by delving into another of her passions – music.
In a surprising move, the 32-year-old has announced plans for a five-song EP – the lead single from which she says will arrive in a mere matter of weeks.

Speaking to The Dish column on Bravo.com, the budding entrepreneur revealed that the track is titled ‘Flatline’. About the single and its accompanying project, she gushed:
“I just finished the first single. We’re going to be releasing [it] within the next two weeks! I’m so excited!
I’ve been working on this song throughout the whole divorce and the whole season [of RHOA], mapping out my emotions and putting in things that I’ve gone through. [The song has a soulful sound], it’s really kind of a documentary of everything that I went through to become who I am now.
It’s emotional and it’s me really being vulnerable and just saying the things that a lot of people feel when you have a heartache and break up with someone.
When we first put it together, I literally cried. I was like, ‘Wow, this embodies everything that I have ever felt, and any of my girlfriends have ever felt, when they were coming out of a breakup. It’s just a beautiful song.”
Naturally, given the musical output from other Housewives such Kim Zolciak and Sheree Whitfield, many are side-eying Williams and the legitimacy of her campaign. She, however, maintains that she is entirely serious.
“I know that I’m taking myself seriously. This is not my first time in the studio—I’ve done demo tracks before. I didn’t become a Housewife and say, ‘Oh, I want to sing!’ I just decided I had the time to put into it, to actually release something this time. When you go through something like I did, you lean on music. It was really important to me and I decided I wanted to share that with everybody else.”
On whether the show’s sole musical maestra Kandi Burrus helped her with her new material, Williams said:
“We didn’t work together on any of these songs, but she did stop by the studio once or twice while I was working on a couple songs and gave me a few angles and pointers. She was such a great friend—pushing me and telling me she believed in me. She was very encouraging”.

Truth be told, we love us some Ms. Williams – supposed ditziness and all. Does she have what it takes to hang on the charts, though? Time will tell. But if her performance at last year’s reunion is anything to go by, she has….potential.

If everybody with a mediocre voice decided to pursue music careers there would be no one actually working real jobs. Sadly I believe the world in the near future will have less to no doctors, lawyers, or everyday ppl making the world go round, just a bunch of wannabe entertainers. Porsha is a dimwit and that’s putting it lightly, she needs to get off her ass and get a real job and stop relying on spousal support to buy $10k shoes when she should be paying her bills. Oh and Kenya (given her occasional nasty attitude) is the most attractive imo on the show. Porsha looks like a deer in headlights, literally her eyes look far apart. But I digress…
I agree! In years to come they will be calling these basic b****** Divas and Icons because labels want to sign standard shower vocals and an image. I see the future of music a disaster whilst real talent will be working 9-5’s

TV personality’s have crossed over to music since way back in the day. I mean look at Jackie Gleason, William Shatner, Bruce Willis, Jared Leto, Gwen Paltrow, all the way to reality stars. This is not the end of music because it’s not a new thing! Plus usually these are fringe interest projects. It’s just away for these celebrities to build their brand. @Shisha actually Tamar and K Michelle can actually sing a lot better than most of these reality stars out here trying to sing. I think they’re more serious about a singing career as well because that was the reason they got on reality TV was to promote themselves. Lets not forget that Tamar was already a singer with an album out before she got on reality TV, she just used her reality shows as a platform to relaunch her solo career. meanwhile I think other reality stars like Porsha and Kim just do music for fun.
