Has Frank Ocean been blacklisted by ‘Black’ music?
If an opinion T-Pain is anything to go by, the answer- rather unfortunately- is yes. Indeed, in a recent interview with DJ Vlad, the ‘Go Girl’ rapper has revealed that numerous Hip Hop staples have decided to cut all ties with Ocean…because of his supposed sexual orientation.
Details below…
Of the sexuality-fuelled blacklisting, Pain shared when quizzed on ‘Urban’s embracing of ‘gay’:
“I don’t think urban music is getting more gay-friendly because if that was the case, Frank Ocean would be on a lot more songs. I know n***as that will not do a song with Frank Ocean just because he gay, but they need him on the fucking song and that’s so terrible to me, man.”
With the world of sport welcoming many an ‘i’m coming out’ story in recent years, it is worth noting that Ocean is the first African-American act in recent history to ‘out‘ himself. This, sending more tremors through the industry than Joe and Jane Doe may be aware of.
So, baring that in mind, let us know…
Aparte de n*gros y feos, racistas. Válgame el santo Señor.
He’s not gay but bi. That is the unfortunate truth about rappers.
It’s a bit true. Everybody’s so homophobic on the internet and people throw the word “f*****” around recklessly. Imagine how much a hip-hop artist would be cloned if they worked with a homosexual, considering how hip hop is full of homophobic slurs. Remember the Eminem/Elton John Grammy performance? He did that to shut down the homophobic slurs but it made people ridicule him harder, everyone saying “I knew he was gay” and starting the stupid rumor that he and Dre used to f*** each other in the butthole during studio sessions.
*would be clowned
but half of the rappers are…. never mind.
I wish n*ggas would realize every gay dude aint tryin to f*** them…
Well it’s their loss. Frank is really talented.
I don’t care for Frank Ocean but half those rappers are whack anyway, and are on the DL and their Scared Frank Will call them out on their b*******
Stick to the Jay-z’s and Beyonce’s your used too.
I may not like his music one itty bit, but MAN is he talking sense. The sad thing is that he’s saying all this in an interview so it’ll go through one ear and outta the other for the rappers that watch this. If he could sit down with them, face-to-face, one on one, he might be able to talk some sense into them.
Most rappers are closet cases anyways. It’s a proven fact that most homophobes are closeted and can’t handle it when someone is openly gay or in Frank’s case openly bisexual.
I think its odd and unfortunate that the same rappers who refuse to work with Frank ocean are more than likely the same rappers who don’t mind working with R.Kelly.
He got Jay and bey and ye on his side though.. He gone be cool.
this is why men will continue to hide who they really are out of fear of being judged
Please!!!! Frank is not worried or even needs to be working with T-Pain or all this wack homophobic rappers when he is working with Beyonce and Jay Z!
Everyone has the right to be. Frank did what he wanted
For himself, others can do the same and not
Be in a room with a gay man
so because rappers wont call him to sing a hook, it means they are homophobic ( not that there is suck a real word )? FUCH OUTTA HERE
RAPPERS SING hooks aimed at bad b******. How could u get Franck to sing a hook about 2 bad b****** in hotel suite or ride or die chick that hold you down, ala thug love?
Fuch outta here. Frank new the risk when he came out, it it his problem, also think of how every one would accuse that rapper of being gay, by working with FRank. I would not want to be accuses of being lesbian or t*****, it is hurtful when you are not.
HIP HOP CULTURE revoles around women, it has never been gay; it has never been gay! Whether it is h***, spanish mami’s, big booty, baby mama’s, or HALLE berry or Nia long references. If you think a rapper is gonna rap about hOW S*** bRAD Pitt is over Halle and short hair like nia long, think again.
Too bad for you Frank, and where are all the white gay men buying your muisc Frank?
T-pain is a joke so his opinion is irrelevant. If they don’t want to work with him than that’s their problem. I don’t know why people are trying so hard to make everyone accept this. If you can’t even respect peoples’ point of view on this matter than don’t expect them to accept you.
#Sorry not Sorry
The real problem is that most of the power players in the industry are gay and so the rappers are afraid of anything that might expose their links to them or the fact that they’re involved with other men themselves.
Think about it, pick any ten rappers at random and ask yourself if it’s even possible for there not to be a gay/bi one among them.
In their minds, it’s better to work with a paedophile like RKelly or a violent thug/murderer than someone who seeks companionship with someone of the same s** and its funny and sad to me.
He never specified. To be honest, I think he’s gay but didn’t want to go as far as to say he likes men exclusively to save face because the backlash of being gay would be more serious. It’s hedging, especially because “He’s actually bi” is seen as a defence when his orientation should just be a neutral status – neither good nor bad.
No disrespect to him. I just don’t think the distinction is necessary.
Being a phobe is stupid, I’m straight and get along with everyone, rather it’s a different race, religion or s**. With that said, he’s not gay, but bi and those aren’t the same thing. Yes they may hit on you, but so does fat slutty whores, it shouldn’t be a prob unless you’re so weak and give in. Maybe that’s what wrong with rappers, they’re so weak that they’ll suck a c*** if asked. lol
@Thiefonce Nobody has to accept anything they don’t want to, but it’s totes hilaire that Hip Hop PRETENDS to be homophobic when we all know what the truth is. It’s like they want to punish Frank proving that it IS possible to be young, rich, black and gay without being the feminine w**** most idiots think gay men are.
Gays want everyone to be gay. I don’t think most rappers would mind working with Frank.
Now everyone wants to step up and speak for the gays?? huh… seriously, why is this lifestyle pushed in our faces? T-pain is just getting his relevancy back and is now jumping on the bandwagon. ugh!!!
I don’t think it’s that they won’t work with him, I think it’s Frank won’t work with them. It’s like Beyonce, Jay Z or Mariah just don’t do a future on anyone song. You have to be someone!
I think Frank will be fine. He is not missing out on working with all these wannabe hardcore rappers who rap about the same subjects, and make mediocre music. Frank is an artist and a true talent. Even after Frank came out he has still been successful, besides who needs the support of T-Pain when you got Kanye, Jay-Z & Beyonce.
If you don’t like gay people that really is your business, because your ass doesn’t have to like anyone you don’t want to. My problem is with two people.
1. Men who think putting another man down makes them more of a man.
2. Gay men who lust over for down low men.
What kind of low down pathetic s*** do you have to be to want to have s** with someone who would beat the s*** out of you if ever dared to tell anyone what you were up to.
I mean are you that desperate?
Lusting over men who make your life a living hell and then gets the BENEFIT of sleeping with you behind closed doors just so you can brag to all your other low self esteem having friends because you think you attracted a ‘straight man’ when that cat is just as gay as YOU.
@rih keeps winning – catch up heuaxihjrh- how about you shut the f*** up with your ignorant ass comment!?! People like you are the reasons why closet-case rappers like those that you listen to, who swear they’re singing about b****** & thug love when you know damn well they talkin about other closet-case gay dudes- make hateful music towards the LGBT and why they are refusing to work with Frank! They, like yourself- will just get clocked at the DL game and are too afraid to be pushed out the closests you call home! hompophobes = closet cases
Imma keep it very real. I used to be a bit of s*** in my teens and had dealings with numerous ‘down low’ n***** in my hood and i’m ashamed because these were the same n***** that would feel no way about laughing at me, spreading s*** about me and picking on me whenever I was on the bus with them.
When I see how badly gay people get treated it makes me WISH for the day when a homophobic rapper is exposed so all those people who bought into their fake image can wipe egg off their faces.
In society’s mind there is only one image of the black gay man, and that image is of a dainty, annoying and shamelessly slutty man. It disturbs the status quo when tall, six foot, sexually attractive and empowered black man are revealed to be gay or bi because society is then forced to rethink everything it’s ever thought about itself.
Homophobic people can be homophobic as long as they don’t act on it, but what they should know is this. While you attack the guy you think is a f***** and make his life a living hell, the dude you pick chicks up with is in another dude’s house doing the SAME thing you’re bullying the so called f***** for doing.
tpain how the f*** you say Frank Ocean never been on jay or kanye album since watch the throne when clearly frank was on “OCEANS” on MCHG and he was on “New Slaves” on YEEZUS please stfu
I don’t think he gives a f*** anyway.
Still, he’s a unique, talented, acclaimed, successful musician who’s worth more than $3M and has a long way to go in his career, and he’s comfortable with who he is.
Homophobic, retarded African-Americans can keep seething.
So what? If some rappers aren’t interested in collaborating with Frank, because he’s gay, then so be it. Who’s gonna die because of it? It’s their records. They can pick and choose who they’d like to work with or not, and it can be for any reason. People make issues out of anything.
I’m sick of people acting like you must at the very least appreciate Frank because of or despite his gayness…else you’re a horrible bigoted hater with a dark soul. If people would rather not with Frank, then again SO BE IT. Who (other than maybe Chris) is slandering that fool in the media? I guess that’s not enough, you gotta smile where he’s concerned and offer some kind of positive reaction about something to prove you’ve got no problem with the gays. Eff all that.
Why y’all mad at T-pain. He was asked a question and gave his answers.
Most people in the game are gay…….I have had my fair share no shade.
H20, none of the murderers in the Gwen Arujo case were black so have a thousand seats at the stadium your fave could NEVER sell out.
Jay z ring a bell? And what rappers? Frank Ocean is a soul/R&B singer, I doubt he’s worried about collaborating w/ the same demographic as chris brown, tbh
maybe, maybe rappers don’t want to work with frank because he sucks as a singer?
every single thing has to be either about race or gays…
frank is not my cup of tea, especially the way he came out..he didn’t come out because he was ready to, or he wanted to help those in the music business who are gay, to come out
he came out because he wanted album sales, point blank..birds of a feather tends to flock together..hence why he is so close to the caters
I wish a motherfugger would come at me sideways if I said I didn’t like gay people..
to me whomever you choose to fugg is your business, just don’t use it as a way to get attention, or do hoee shiit..
if somebody wants to stay in the closet, who am I to get mad and ish, I ain’t fugging him…
talk about rappers are notorious for being in The closet..exhibit A..JOE CAMEL
Why does any of this matter? Is any food being taken off Frank’s plate because there are rappers who’re avoiding working with him? I swear gays are getting a bit cocky. Not everyone has to give you daps for walking in the room with your rainbow flag present.
Everything about Frank is so political, the music is really just an afterthought. It’s like they were so bent on his being an out gay not being detrimental to his career that they’ve gone of their way to coddle him and overcompensate support where he’s concerned.
Frank is a quality artist with talent first and foremost. He doesn’t need to bring himself down to appear on other rappers records that are not of quality. He doesn’t even need to when he got Bey/Jay and Kanye aswell as Odd Future. Frank is also a rapper to but I consider him to be a great writer. So he don’t need to be on anybody’s music.
Probably true but all the same he has worked with beyonce, jay and kanye, all of whom so many people would like to work with but will never…
@ VisionOfMoo
I’m not American and don’t know what “case” you’re talking about.
And what’s wrong with my fav’s “stadium” dates?
Only stadium dates that didn’t 100% sell out were in Brazil where she still got the highest attendance of 2013.
And her tour is still $200 million+
😀
I tottaly agree. Frank is a soul singer. He not worried about colabing with Hollyhood.
If I see a dude being all chummy with Frank, I’m gonna start questioning that association. We all know what Frank is: a gay n****. Birds of a flock. People are judged by the company they keep. Hang out with a known gay guy, it’s gonna make people wonder about you too.
Frank is not loosing any sleep over the opinions of Hollyhood! Besides he is a soul singer who appeals to a different demographic.
@ Quentin
Nothing but truth.
If I were a rapper, I wouldn’t be trying to work with Frank either. Let’s face it, that’s guilt by association.
…..yet Jay Z (THE NUMBER 1/MOST RESPECTED RAP ARTIST/MOGUL) put him on his newest album MAGNA CARTER..So those rappers whom he is referring ti are probably unknown…therefore IRRELEVANT.
@BITING TRUTH but who gives a f***
I wouldn’t wanna work with that sissy either. I lost respect for that pansy after the Chris brown incident. He carried it like a true f*****.
#TEAMBREEZY
I’m #TEAMPREEZON too
He sound dump.
Idk T-Pain. I’m sure rappers would be eager to collab with Frank. He has stock in the industry…. Maybe HE isn’t interested in working with THEM….
I don’t like Frank’s music/voice, but I don’t think it’s a homophobic or hate thing. Like somebody else said, Hip Hop is about an image. You cannot have a song about going to the club to take fine chicks home but then have an out gay (let’s be honest, when a man says “bi”, all anyone hears is “gay”) man singing the hook. Just doesn’t work. Besides, Frank is not really as big in R&B as the internet makes him out to be. His fanbase and the fanbase that buys the hip hop music T-Pain is referring to are NOT the same.
That whole thing was dumb. DJ VLAD remarked about how the last time he saw T-Pain it was in an interview where he was talking about Ray-J and Kim Kardashian — then out of nowhere T-Pain’s drunk ass responds to that by talking about gay. T-Pain is and always has been a clown to not take seriously. Don’t report on him no more.
As far as Frank goes…pause.
Ain’t nobody trying to have that gay ass n!gga on their record.
Hey Pain , Frankie Ocean was on Jays last album post Watch the Throne . Get yo facts str8 boo
Why does T-Pain care so much? How many tracks has he done with Frank? Can’t stand grandstanding negroes who are all talk. Be quiet.
He is worried about Frank Ocean when he can barely get a feature himself. The songs that Frank gets featured on have nothing to do with women, case in point Oceans by Jay Z. Frank Ocean is not hot on the RnB scene like say Trey Songz, Chris Brown or even Drake, hell Usher barely gets features does that mean he’s gay too. I highly doubt that Frank’s fan base would go out and buy a song talking about twerking. Dude needs to start thinking about new ways to revive his career instead of doing interviews that do nothing for his music.
I don’t believe T Pain, but if it is true i’m sure Frank don’t care he only work with legendary MCs anyway Jay, Kanye, and Nas the rest of those bums suck anyway
Just when I thought he disappeared…Sigh…Why did we bring him up again… This is how I feel hate it or love it…My opinion won’t change…
I would respect him if he didn’t use this “coming out” trend…because his talent has proved just where he would be if he didn’t use that excuse to make people hear his music…(Good marketing strategy..though)-Where has he been again? Oh yea I don’t really care…No one makes R&B like they used to..
Who the f*** is t pain
@ Ren
Neither does he need a bunch of homophobic, retarded, smelly hoodrats (:
My love to Frank Ocean 🙂 but no need to fret because rap is old and not in trend anymore. I have never listened to rap and never will the same goes for hip-hop.
BIZZLE – Same Love (Response) is the greatest song this decade.
I Have to agree with U bro.
