Hailed by many as her best LP since ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’, Mariah Carey’s new album ‘Me.I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse’ scored a solid ten in the court of public opinion upon its release today, much to the delight-no doubt- to the singer and her camp.
Unfortunately, if first week sales predictions for the album are anything to go by, that is where the good news stops and starts. For, in what’s likely to see her current management team blamed for mishandling the project, the release is set to open with worryingly low numbers, marking a career worst for the ‘Beautiful’ belter.

Set to mark her lowest first week sales pulled by a traditional Mimi release, ‘Chanteuse‘ is now on course to debut within the 65-70k figure come next week.
Worrying to say the very least, ‘Elusive’s sales are now set to cower in the face of the 436,000 units moved by 2008’s ‘E=MC2’ and the 168,000 copies shifted by ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ in their respective release weeks.Ironic, considering neither received the warm critical reception afforded to the new LP.
With Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born To Die’ going on to scan 1 million copies after debuting with 77k, here’s hoping ‘Chanteuse’ follows a similar path if it does do as predicted.
For, while some of the star’s fans have convinced themselves that “sales don’t matter this time around“, the funds spent on making the LP happen sing to a very different tune, with Mariah’s stock as a commercial stock set to plummet if things don’t turn around for her in the week following this one.
Put simply, it’ll take a Larry Rudolph-sized miracle to rescue Carey’s seemingly sinking sales ship before radio programmers, critics and the general public decide to pull their support for the release everybody believes nobody else cares about.

But it just shows pushing back an album many times and having low self esteem mixed in with that will get you bad sales. I hope this does pan out to be a slow burner and will grow to platinum ASAP. There´s no promo or radio support anywhere. It´s normal. Blogs and critics should do their job now and support quality, and of course the label.

More or less the mubers I and everybody else were expecting… till now! Because that´s what every artist Mariah´s age is selling nowadays (and most of the youngest too) when there´s no hit single or radio support. BUT, the thing is she really surprised critics with the quality of the album, now that it is out, people can hear about that, and sales can increase, exceding these initial predictions (which I hate, I always say it). The thing is Mariah has not even received a 10% of the promo any Rihanna, Gaga, Beyonce, etc album gets now, so it´s very difficult to sell more than this. I hope, critics do their jobs and keep on supporting the album until the masses know about it.
I really hope this is the case. I’ve been so surprised by the positive reviews for the album.
The general public doesn’t even know the album is out. Her management, label and Carey herself are all to blame for this disaster. This is her best album in years and she doesn’t have the proper set up to ensure it is successful.
