In honour of a career cut short by death in 2011, the family of the late Amy Winehouse has welcomed the unveiling of a brass statue built in her honour this week, placed in the neighbourhood in which she lived before her passing.
Designed by Scott Eaton, the veil on statue was lifted on what would have been her 31st birthday, erected at Stables Market and captured in the snap now available to peep above.
More on the masterpiece below…
On his work, Eaton explained:
The pose had to capture Amy’s attitude and strength, but also give subtle hints of insecurity. The hand on the hip, the turn of the head, the grabbing of the skirt, the turned in foot – these are all small elements that contribute to the personality of the piece. The design is not based on any single snapshot, photo or moment in time, but an amalgamation of influences. Hopefully by taking many important moments in her history and drawing on those, the piece comes close to capturing the essence of Amy.
Winehouse’s immortalisation comes eight years after the release of her second studio album ‘Back to Black‘, certified 11x Platinum in the UK, surpassing sales of 8 million units in Europe and selling over 2.4 million copies in the US.

One of the greatest
Amy>Adele
Amy>Lilly Allen
Amy>Duffy
Amy>Lady Gaga
Amy>Lana Del Rey
Amy> Lorde
Yesss I loved her! True soulful raw talent. And her music isn’t overrated like a certain obese mammoth.
Adele could never
Be a dead crackhead? Of course she couldn’t d***. Stay pressed over the queen!!
yep…. If amy would not have left a hole in music – adel would not have the opening.
Yeah Amy was a beast. I love her!
I like a lot of the UK to USA artists, but I really loved was Amy. She had a lot of demons and people against her, but her talent was phenomenonal. I’m glad that Amy gave us what she did, because that ended up being the blueprint for the Sam Smith, Adele, Emeli Sande, and etc type of artists. RIP.
People can say what they want but Amy was a true TRANSPARENT artist. She sang about her struggles and you could tell it was real… Back2Black is and will always be a MASTERPIECE… As much as I like Adele, I LOOOOOOVED Amy and people started really checking for Adele after Amy’s death. Definitely gone too soon… RIP
Please follow me on ask.fm @beykim thanx and Amy was done straight gorgeous
don’t try it with Adele, she can sing and she has/makes Nice music
.
this Amy chick’s music sounds boring (1900s bar music) and she sang like a lazy super-prostitute
Adele hits one note and has no range. She’s cool, but she sings the same song over and over again and sings it the same way with no variation. She’s a robot compared to Amy–raw, true authentic talent. ADELE could never!
Talent wise
Amy>>> Duffy>>>Adele
This statue does capture Amy well. It almost
feels alive, just in a picture. Nice job the artist
did.
Adel is a cover band.
Kids and artists hoping to break into the industry say no to drugs it may seem like you have to do that to be accepted in the in crowd but let your talent speak for itself
I live on the same road where she died, people still put flowers outside her house even though it’s sold! Amy is a ledgend, she paved the way for Adele & Duffy, they would be no one if it wasn’t for Amy!
Her “Back to Black” album is a REAL classic. One of the best and more iconic of the 00s decade.
