M.I.A hit headlines this week after dropping out of the Afropunk Festival in London.
The rapper had come under fire from supporters of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, which she scathingly criticized in an interview.
Clearly feeling the pressure from their draggings and synonymous calls for her to be axed from the line-up, the 38-year-old announced her departure from the Sept 24th extravaganza.
Yet, in an interesting move, organisers have asserted that she will be performing. They have also issued a statement addressing the controversy surrounding her comments.
Check it out below…
Hmm.
Good for them tbh. No sense in retaliating against someone for speaking their opinion even if you disagree with it. I don’t agree with her comments but I agree with the point she was trying to make (at least I think it was the point she was trying to make).
We have our own struggles. I’m so sick of others using the black struggle as a way to push their own agendas. I have nothing against muslims, but if u want change then do like we did during the Civil Rights Movement. Change doesn’t come to those who stay quiet and do nothing. MIA needs to have several for that statement she made.
Let the muslims and other minority groups mobilize themselves and stand up for their own rights. You cannot expect black people to fight your battles, we have our own struggles to deal with.
Boycott and don’t attend.
Dang didn’t know she’s in her late 30’s and some people agree & disagree with her but not that many people know who she is in today music World
